Navigation Retrofit?

Hi all,

I'm looking at a 2010 R8 that strangely enough, does not have navigation. It does have the convenience package though.

I've used the search feature to do some more research, but need confirmation. For the 2010 model, it's not just a software toggle for navigation. Rather, you would need a hardware swap, i.e., a 2010 RNS-E correct? If this is correct, is a simple plug and play?

Heck you could buy a good hand held Navi for around a hundred bucks and you can use it while walking, biking, sailing, and in the car. Not all my cars have the navi, so since you reminded me I'll probably order a TomTom right now. I sure wish I could view photos/videos on my R8 navi screen !!!

Agree that great hand held solutions exist for a fraction of the price, but I prefer an integrated, factory solution for the car.

OEMPlus, one of the vendors here, has a retrofit.

Thankfully it also seems that OEMPLUS have now ironed out the previous issues they had with the retrofit kit.

Ive never heard of an R8 before not specced with a navigation unit. I was tempted to upgrade mine to the latest one with HD display!

@mark25: I agree, it's quite odd. One would think that after spending that kind of coin for a supercar, one would spring for the nav package.....

2011 is apparently the time for oddly-equipped 2008/2009 cars to come out of the woodwork!

In the last 60 days, we have installed two navigation systems, one F/R parking aid package and two rear-view cameras. Next week we're even doing a Bluetooth retrofit!

I guess this is proof that the dealers were trying to cut corners and pinch pennies when they ordered their first few allotments of cars...

I was looking at a 2011 that had a crapload of options, but was missing Nav...

Unfortunately, someone else bought it before I could. :P
