Navigation Map Scheme

This is driving me nuts. My Map Scheme detection for the navigation is set to automatic, but my car seems to always think it's night time, and only occasionally will it correctly detect day. Anyone know any reason why this may be? Wondering what else might be wrong.

A piece of dirt/dust on the light sensor on the RNS-E unit perhaps?

Where is the sensor located?

I think I found the sensor now, it's located in a little window on the windshield as part of the rear view mirror housing.

Bad news is the navigation map changes based on how the headlights are activated, I don't think it has it's own sensor. I've just noticed that when the map is in daytime mode it means the headlights only have the LED strip on and they are exceptionally bright! So I've been driving with my headlights on the whole time instead of just the DRL I guess. I imagine other people don't have this problem?
