Buying a R8 in the CA Bay Area

I'm ready to put a deposit down on a 2012 R8 5.2 coupe, and have been reading Yelp reviews and doing research on the different Bay Area Audi dealers. I've never bought a car in the area and am concerned by the reviews I've read.

I searched through the forum archives and didn't find previous discussions on this. Would any of you recommend a Bay Area dealer? If not, perhaps someone in Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, or another state near California? I'd be fine with going to pick up the car, I just want to deal with a dealer who's only mildly shady versus full-on shady. :-)

    Thanks for any advice!

Sorry can't help you but isn't it funny dealers in the US sell you an R8 in 2011 as a 2012 model so you think you're ahead of the game by a year.

Maybe I'll try that next time I sell a car . That's right, you can tell it's a 2020 model they didn't add a steering wheel until Fall of 2020 on this particular vehicle.

I'm looking at doing the same thing (well, a V8), so I'd be interested in what people say.

I've bought a couple of cars at Rector and a couple at Stevens Creek. If you want all my opinions about both, PM me and maybe I can give you a call to chat.

As for the 2011 vs 2012 thing, if you are ordering now, you are getting a 2012... :P

Dealers have no say as to the model year of any car. At some point in the year, the manufacturer changes the model year designation.

Try Niello Audi in Sacramento, or Elk Grove Audi in Elk Grove ( Lasher Auto Group). Both have been around for some time, and have fairly good reps.

I have not bought a new car from Oakland Audi, but I do have my two Audis serviced there. As far as that goes, they have been very good.

Re: Buying a R8 in the CA Bay Area

While I don't have any opinions regarding the Audi dealers, being in the process of buying my first ever Audi, I do have a more generic observation.

I'd be more concerned about the service department than the sales department. I've bought many a new vehicle in the Bay Area and without exception not one sales department have ever followed up with me after I complete the manufacturers "dealer survey". Not. One.

Service guys, on the other hand, are your lifeline. Especially with a car like the R8.

So buy the car where ever you feel more comfortable, or get the best deal, or quickest delivery date, or nicest coffee. Makes little difference in the end. Then go to which ever service shop best meets your needs. In my case this will be Rector Motors as I'm having the STaSIS supercharger fitted.

Oops, I didn't see your post before I replied Moggy, but that's a great point. I was going to go with Rector for service since they're the only Stasis-compatible dealer in the area that I would deal with. Stevens Creek makes my spidey sense tingle, I would drive to Sacramento for servicing before I'd go there. :-)
