No key R8?

hey guys,

I test drove a 2008 R8 a little while back and noticed that I had to stick the key in the ignition and I had to unlock the door via the keyfob (remote).

I come from the BMW world, and I previously owned a 2008 M3 and I currently own a 2008 M6, both of these cars had comfort access...so I never had to use the key to either unlock the doors or start the car. Is this an option on the R8? If so..what year did it start?

I know it sounds crazy, but I've gotten very used to it and whenever I drive my moms Mercedes GLK which doesn't have keyless go (Mercedes version of comfort access), I find it annoying.

I guess it's just whatever you are used to. My Porsches had keys and the R8 has keys.

When I drive my wife's Audi which is keyless, I dislike it because she has it in her purse and sometimes I've dropped her off at restaurants or when shopping to go and park and the car starts alarming because the key has left the car.

Nope.

I find it annoying.

Then you should probably buy another BMW.

Have cars with keys and others without. I have no trouble moving between the two methods. I will say that I'm a fan of the keyless approach.

When I test drove my Spyder I was a little taken aback by the lack of keyless entry/go as it is definitely a great convenience (except when I get "key not found" errors), and it was one of the things I listed in the thread about what we wish Audi would put on the short list of much needed improvements, but after 2400 miles in 4 months I really don't get bothered by it at all. It's not even annoying any more so you'll adjust, I'm sure. But I do agree that it is something the next generation R8 (if there is one in the offing) will surely have (or should).

The R8 is definitely behind the on the technology curve. If they don't hurry and get out front soon, I'm afraid it will go the way of the NSX.

I'm okay with that. The NSX is still an exclusive car.

Good thing the OP didn't grow up in the age of carburetors. Imagine if he had to pull the choke and peddle the gas while turning the key...
