    Rtronic issue

I just purchased 2009 r8 rtronic with 5900 miles. For some reason the the acceleration from a complete stop is extremely slow and un smooth, car starts to move at around 2500 rpm and then seems to hesitate for about 1 sec
, any ideas. By the way it does the same thing it manual mode as well.

update 4/11. took the car to the dealer this morning and they checked for updates based off of the VIN, there was one for all 08 and most 09 R-tronic models, the recall is to replace some of the transmission sensors as well as reprogram the ecu. thought it was interesting that they have what seems to be almost a blanket recall on those two years but not that many owners know about it. should have my car back by Wednesday and will report any change.

I'm not that mechanically inclined but noticed that on my low mileage car that I got last year. Took it to the dealer and they agreed. First they flushed the injectors. Still wasn't fixed and then they changed the fuel pump and now all is well. The whole process took almost 4 weeks but at the end of the day, it runs really great now.

The first thing I would do is take the car to the dealer and request the latest flash update and their assistance. There have been a few flash updates AND the dealer is your friend. Your car is covered under warranty.

Enjoy the car when it comes back from the dealer.

Where are you from hguy? Can you add your location to your profile?

Be sure to ask for R-Tronic updates specifically, as they can have a big impact on smoothness during acceleration.

The APR software flash is also a nice way to smooth out power delivery and throttle response, assuming the dealer trip doesn't get you quite where you want to be...

    Re: Rtronic issue

Funny thing is I've had the software updates done and, while it now shifts much more smoothly, moving off from a dead stop still feels lethargic, as though the car just doesn't really want to go anywhere.

Maybe it just likes sitting still so that more people can admire it.

    Re: Rtronic issue

I get the same sensation while trying to accelerate from a dead-stop. I have to lightly depress the throttle and let the RPMs build before I give it a go. A little embarrassing, to be honest, when any other car on the road gets a better jump off the line (well, at least for the first 0.3 sec).

I'm curious if the V10 or any supercharged V8s have the same problem.

i have no such problem with my V10. if you take off slow the cluth takes longer to fully disengage.

    Re: Rtronic issue

The RT on the V10 bites according to how you give it throttle. If you try to inch forward slowly it might slip the clutch a bit, but if you give it some welly it bites and goes. Nothing like what the OP describes though. In any circumstance, clutch engagement comes right off of idle.

Perhaps one difference is whereas a manual transmission will start inching forward without even touching the gas, with the RT you do have to push the throttle to make it go. If the approach to pulling away is too tentative, it might behave in the way being described.
