rtronic -- i'm surprised

As my car is, once again, in the dealership. Audi (UK) kindly shipped up a v10 spyder for me and it is fitted with rtronic.

Have to say i am having a ball with it and am not a bit that i ordered mine with the gearbox. The reason i did this was any review of an rtronic car always complained that it was jerky, unresponsive and downright nasty. Have they re-mapped this or am i just lacking sensitivity? As i find the changes anything but un-responsive?

V10s come with the updated software that was missing from early V8 models that were tested by magazines. It does make a difference. That and the fact that it takes a little bit of time to get familiar with the R-tronic's nuances.

A lot of the early reviewers were comparing it to traditional slushbox automatics, and a lot of the modern reviewers compare it to dual-clutch setups.

If they stopped trying to compare it and spent time with it, they might just find they enjoy it as much as many r-tronic owners do. I think there is also a trend for journalists to join the herd and not stick their neck out supporting something the "big boys" have rubbished.

I stepped into it this morning with my only previous experience being an smg11 on an old M3... that is what i was expecting. Boy was i surprised.

Oh well i will enjoy till they get mine back to me.

When considering the purchase of an R8GT, the only downfall for me personally, was the fact that they fitted it with the R-tronic. I so much prefer the manual gated 6 speed.

The best way to "fix" the RT is to drive it yourself and realize it's actually very good. I find myself short shifting just so I can play with the flapy paddles. Dajjy is right, downshifts are just plain fun.

The problem with MB isn't Schu. Rosberg can't make it go either.
