Audi R8 LMS starting at only 354,620 EUR

I was just on Audi's German site and noticed they added the LMS as well, it doesn't appear on their world wide, audi.com, site yet

It's in German, but the specs are not difficult to figure out:

    http://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/erleb...rt_r8_lms.html

Same power as the normal V10, RWD, has a 120 litre tank, and empty weight is 1.340 kg.

My apologies if this was already mentioned already. The forum search doesn't allow searching for "LMS" as it's too short.

For that amount of money couldn't you convert a regular R8 V10 into something better than an LMS.

LOL,... That is quite a price increase from the original €262000. It will certainly shut down any thoughts of having this great car become a popular club racer for Audi Club.

Wonder if Porsche had anything to do with this pricing decision?
    * I guess not. Even in this older video the price had already climbed to €300,000!

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I think with that kind of money you take the most basically specced V8 you can find, and tune the hell out of it to create an insane monster, and you still wouldn't get anywhere close.

After all, ripping all the heavy padding and materials from the ****pit and leaving it naked doesn't cost anything.

Strap on a supercharger, change to light weight bucket seats, swap the battery and you're still very very far from the LMS in price.

Yes, you'll still be AWD, but with insane power gains and crazy weight loss, who cares.

Then you can really splash on CF body panel replacements, or better yet, get them custom made at a good shop that won't charge you an arm and a leg for them.

It sure is a massive price increase for basically a stripped down car.

But honestly, the GT while looking great and probably feeling good, it absolutely far from being a good bang for the buck.

The R8 GT is to the R8 as the M3 CSL was to the M3...

Yes, one can convert a base stock R8 into a wonderful full track, racing R8 for a reasonably good price. But the bad part of that is that you will not have a group of similarly prepared spec cars to race via Audi Club.

Customers of Mazda, Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus and a few others enjoy "affordable," and successful racing series with similar spec race cars setup and supported by their factories. Unfortunately, at the crazy price set by Audi for their R8 LMS race car, Audi and Audi Club will never have such a series for its owner/driver customers.

By making one's own R8 race car, you will be probably be left within a racing class such as NASA 'unlimited' racing classifications which have unbelievably crazy fast race cars, that will leave such a good R8 race car far far behind in huge amounts track dust. ( The same result would also happen if one were to race this very expensive R8 LMS in these same unlimited classes.)

I think you guys are missing the point. The LMS is not at all similar to the various GT cars. The LMS is a true race car. It has a carbon-fiber wide body, front slot downforce, center-lock wheels and axles, modified suspension, upgraded transmission internals, full cage (not just a roll bar), race ecu/electronics, and much, much more I'm sure I don't even know about.

I'm not defending the price one way or another, just saying that it is not a simple matter to mod a V8 in your garage and end up with an LMS equivalent.

I think we are very aware of that which we speak. Full race cars. Just like the Porsche Cup cars in the Porsche Cup Challenge race series and like every car that races in any NASA or SCCA race class.
