    R8 problems on delivery

Was wondering if there are others who received a new R8 with problems. Mine was delivered with a malfunction in manual shifter. I noticed it with the first 5 min of driving the car.
Have been to dealer to change the shifter assembly and it now seems there is a problem with the cable and something in the gearbox. They ordered the part from Germany, and supposed to fix the problem in the next two weeks.
I can still drive the car, but curious, did anyone else get a delivery on a car that had a problem.
Was under the impression they were test driven as mine had about 50 miles on it.
Would love to hear from other members and how they handled the situation

Wow, sorry to hear that. It must be disheartening. I hope it gets resolved asap.

Well it is a bummer, especially since they tried to fix it without success. If it is more complicated than just the shifter, I am seriously considering getting the sale annuled as it was sold with hidden defects. Not something you want on a new 200 K car..

Only "problem" my car came with is if I spray the hose too directly at the passenger side corner where the convertible top meets the windscreen frame, I can get water to penetrate into the interior, so I just avoid doing that and otherwise my car has been perfect. Sorry to hear you're having shifter issues. Mine has been a joy to drive!

Must say the car is a real car to drive. I see you have a spyder also. My only beef would be that the cabrio has a lot of air come into the cabin. The Porsche cabrio and mercedes Sl has almost no air come into the car so that you can drive it on cold days with the heater on, and of course, women don't mind the top down as it does not blow hair all over the place.
Fun wise, the R8 is hard to beat, and the back window down lets in a lot of motor sounds....

I have a new 5.2 Spyder as well and while only 600 miles, thus far not a single problem. Great ride!

You're right, Eliouno: lots of wind in the cabin. Have you tried the wind deflector? I haven't bothered with it since I live in Florida and it doesn't get cold like Montreal. I see yours is also Phantom Black. Hard to maintain but gorgeous when clean.
Str8nr, what color is your Spyder? And, where are you located?
Lots of Spyders being sold so lots of new members. Welcome!

my V8 came with a problem with the manual cog that mad it almost impossible to put into third gear. it was resolved within two weeks. the problem was within the mechanism of the shifter- don't recall exactly. i heard of another case like it.never had any issues after that. also, most of the manual cars need a few gear shifts to loose the lever a bit. that is normal. it is a very heavy duty unit.

Really hard to maintain...I now remember why I promised to never buy a black car again...I had memory block when I bought it.
Even if the wheather is not cold, the wind in the cabin is not pleasant and on a four or five hour drive the wind wacks you out. Hard to convince girlfriend to have top down.
The up side is the sound when the top is up and back window down.
I've always driven with the wind deflector on, but want to try it without, as it doesn;t seem to do too much..

I hope mine gets resolved as quickly as yours, and the problem seems to be similar somewhat. The third gear is loose and has movement whenever I touch the gas, either off or on. It is not because the car is under stress.
Apparently they ordered the part from Germany and should be fixed soon
