Engine cuts out at high rpm in third gear

With approximately 800 miles on my 5.2 Spyder (manual) the while accelerating on the freeway in third gear (approximately 80mph) the engine the car started "bucking" as the engine cut out as if it was starved for fuel. Very unnerving. Happened repeatedly. Anyone out there experience the same issue?

Were there any messages from the computer/fault indicators? My car has 170 miles on it and recently went through 2 episodes of ESP fault before the engine light came on...it turned out to be a CAM sensor problem according to them...it seemed to occur around third gear then the car would go into limp mode before idling rough then dying. I just got it back and am hoping that was the problem.

Is the car fully warmed up when this happens? Until water and oil temps have come up off the pegs, the computer will cut fuel somewhere in the 6k rpm range.

I have seen this if you have it in sport mode and approach redline...even if it is warmed up.

Bucking at redline at high speeds sounds scary. My rev limiter comes on SMOOTHLY. Feels as if car just won't go any faster because of a cylinder or two being deprived of any ADDITIONAL fuel. ONLY happens at the track. Certain spot, right in front of the grandstands.(Buttonwillow, Bakersfield, Ca.) Not enough power/or a taller gear would be too slow.

80 mph in third gear is way below red line in a V10. I'm still guessing the OP should let the car get warm and test again. If it still cuts out, record how many rpm, and does it do the same thing in every gear.

There was a post about this a while back. It is a common issue with the 6-speeds in third gear. I have noticed it as well. You can literally floor the car in third and it will start speeding up, then cut out for a second, and then continue. Trust me, you are not the only one. I will try and find the old thread. Not sure if there is a fix. I just live with it. Does what I'm saying sound like your issue?

I've experienced this as well. Found this thread on it, but it's about doing the same in 2nd gear. I'm pretty sure my car is/was always properly warmed up even when this has happened....

Thanks Tommy! That's what I was talking about. I'm pretty sure mine is third gear, but I honestly can't remember (and it even happened today!). Wow, my memory sucks right now (it is 12:17 a.m. and I am tired!!!). Lol! Will try it tomorrow and figure out exactly what gear it happens in. I'm pretty sure it is somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 rpms if I remember correctly. Let you know tomorrow for sure.

Here it is, although it states it happens at lower RPM's. Which I believe is the same in my case.
