    Pricing

Hello all. First post here. I have been wanting and looking at the R8 for a while and now want to buy one. I am a bit confused on the pricing I have seen and would like some insight. I was looking to get a used 2008 R8 in white 6spd with no options. I have not seen this yet, but the 6spds are out there with few options. The options and cost just do not seem worth it to me and the stock setup is just fine. I am coming from a Lotus so the stock setup are like dream options for me. A base comfortable seat is a dream. Now I am confused on why the used cars seem to be going for the prices they do. I get supply and demand, but I called the closest Audi dealer and I can order a bran new 2012 model (3-4 month build time) V8 6spd white no options and get it for like 110K. I am just confused on why anyone would pay 100K for a used one that is almost 4 years old now instead of buying a new one. I would think deprecation would kick in here sometime since they are just about 4 years old now. Am I missing something?

I hear you. These cars have held up their value a little too well. I ended up buying a brand new one because price difference was not worth it. Luckily, I was able to negotiate a price below msrp because the 2012s are almost out.

    Good luck with car hunt!

It sounds like you're comparing apples to oranges if you're ignoring the options. Start speccing options and the price jumps quickly on the v8 which comes with very little as standard unlike the v10.

btw, please add your locations to your profile as things vary across the globe.

Apples and oranges is right! If you think you can buy a brand new V8 R8 for 110k, you're in for a big surprise. I'm pretty sure BASE price is right around 120k! And if you plan on ordering one with zero options, plan on keeping it for a long time as well.
In case you haven't noticed yet, Audi is especially known for their fit and finish, (especially interior wise) so its almost expected that most want a nicely option vehicle to start.
As for resale holding so well on these cars, well if you want to go un-noticed, and drive something seen 10 times a day that depreciated immensely, pick up a used Z06 or 997 TT.

    Re: Pricing

regardless of where this guy is he is waaaaay off. in the US the std car costs about 120K. and it doesn't have a must have- the parking aid package which costs 2K. if he is truly in the 120K spending limit he should have no prob spending 2K more. next- yes the R8 has kept its value well. anyone who had predicted otherwise was either envious or fantasizing about owning one 2 years after it came out. they routinely cost over 100K still- for a 2008 and with well optioned trims. like the other poster said- you have to pay to play, and in this game the price diff between new and old is a pittance unless you are counting your pennies or you get a rare great deal- like buying a used car from a guy going through a divorce and who needs to skip town. unfortunately these latter examples only show up at the dealers' footsteps so they can unload the cars quickly.

    Re: Pricing

In the UK, there is certainly a difference on the v8's - a decent spec 07/08 car can be had for under £60k whereas it would have cost about £85k to buy new. My old 08 cost £94k and sold for around £65k a month or so ago.

I initially planned on getting a used v10 and letting someone else take that initial "new car" hit, but the deal worked out better on the new than used as the dealer had more margin to play with.

    Re: Pricing

I have been looking at the market and prices that dealers are asking on the both used V8 and V10's doesn't make sense. The asking prices are more than if you order one. IMO, when you are ready just go there and deal with them. I am sure you can get 3-5% below MSRP now for 2011.

    Re: Pricing

You must be looking at Retail used, and not 3rd party pricing. True, dealers don't seem to want to discount the used R8's much, as it brings in foot traffic. 3rd party used is a different story. Edmunds for example lists the TMV of a '08 4.2 at $78K. On a value-holding scale of 0 (low) to 10 (high), R8 rates 0.5. I don't really what warrants such a low number, I suspect, all 6-figure super cars suffer the same

TMV/$78K=WHAT!!!!! What exactly is TMV anyways..... Trade-in Miserable Values?? Whatever it is, it clearly is a joke.
The cheapest I've seen any R8 go for, (asking price) was an 08 with 30some k on the odometer, and not many very options for 89k.
I'm quite pleased with how R8's are holding value, and hope they continue to do so. As they should, for such a great and very limited production supercar!
