First time tracking car: tire/helmet questions.

I'm sorry to start a new thread just for these questions, but this will be my first time tracking a car at an upcoming driver school. As a non-solo applicant, the vehicle requirements state that certain tires cannot be used including:

    Pirelli P Zero "C"
    Pirelli P Zero Corsa
    Pirelli Corsa

    http://www.neqclub.org/toolbox/event...uirements.html

Do my Pirelli P Zero R01s qualify? I couldn't find information on the "C" tire listed.

Also, does anyone have experience with renting helmets at these events? Is there an issue with availability typically? Should I consider investing in one, or wait until after my first event?

    Thanks in advance.

    Get your own helmet.

You'll need an SA rated helmet - SA will take multiple hits, M only takes one. Recently there's been a push among promotors, sanctioning bodies, etc. to use SA rated helmets only.

Use this link to learn how to select a correctly fitting helmet.

A correctly fitting helmet will slightly squeeze your mellon the first few times you use it and it will break in and become comfortable with usage. It's imperative that it fits correctly to do it's job.

Shoei fits tighter than a Bell of the same size.
Bell fits better on those with a longer (front to back) crown of the head.
HJC makes some really good stuff for a lot less than many of the others.

You can get away with an open face helmet inside a car - especially during track days.

You can wear sun glasses with your helmet if you have glasses that don't have really stiff ear pieces.

Amber lens will enhance low level lighting and help with shadows
Blue lens works during the height of day sun, where the shadows don't tend to show surface undulations (think the middle of the day while snow skiing - no resolution of the ground)

Gotta go - the F1 race just started. LOOK AT ALONZO!!!! WOW!!!!

Re: First time tracking car: tire/helmet questions.

Your tires will be fine. The "C" probably refers to either Corsa (racing) or "Cup", as in the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. In the case of Pirelli, their latest cup tire is called the PZero Trofeo. I looked at the club's list, and all of the tires listed are R-Compound tires, or track tires. The PZero R01 is a street tire and will be just fine at your event.

Re: First time tracking car: tire/helmet questions.

If you decide to buy, KfabR8's advice above is all excellent.

If you wish to rent, typically the Audi Club chapters all have a good selection of helmets, so renting at the track usually isn't a problem. I'd check with the organizers ahead of time to make certain of availability in your size.

You will have a great time, congrats on making the decision to attend!!!
