Audi R8 versus used Lamborghini Gallardo

One question that I am trying to solve is whether to get an Audi R8 or used Lamborghini Gallardo. I have a BMW M3 for my daily driver car. Any R8 owners who faced the same decision to get an R8 versus a used Lamborghini or Ferrari? I have driven both Lamborghini and Ferrari but never driven an R8 yet since Audi dealers are reluctant to grant test drives for prospective buyers.

I just test drove my first 4.2L r-tronic R8 spyder today. Coming from a 360, this car is very comfortable, vision was great, steering perfect, power like Ferrari, easy to drive, good exhaust rumble, the shifting was a little jumpy in low speeds, very roomy, I would've drove for another seven hours without any discomfort on my back.
Eventhough, I have never driven a Lambo, I drove only Ferraris (360, 360CS, 430), I would assume Lambo will be a little more exciting to drive. However, are you looking for a once a week excitement or a daily driver. I don't think you can drive lambo from LA to San-Fran very comfortably, but you can drive the R8.
You can buy an old model Gallardo (07-08) model and not LP560-4 with the money of brand new V10 R8. There is the warranty factor. are you ready to spend on the Gallardo?
I asked the same the question last month in this forum. I was asking the about WOW!! factor and the excitement. I think this car is beautiful enough, exciting enough, comfortable enough, to drive for several years and not to get bored with it.
If you can afford to spend around 190-200K and want a weekend car, I would recommend a Balboni. I would not spend on a F430. Get a 458 if you can. If your budget is less get an R8 and you will not regret it.

However, I agree. For a daily driver, the R8 hands down would be great exotic to own. I think the R8, Aston Martin and Mercedes SLS AMG are best everyday exotics. For a weekend car, the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini or McClaren would be my top choices. I guess it really comes down to which car I can find at discount new or lowest used price. I like all these cars. When I bought my M3, I found a great deal on a used one. The challenge with exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and R8 is that prices on used cars like these are still quite high. However, I must admit the R8 holds it value quite well compared to Ferrari or Lamborghini or Aston Martin.

Lambo is a Audi with Italian spice added.

In the newer 560 a lot of the R8 rear suspension was installed to improve handling so they are basically hybrids of each other..just with the R8 generally having a bit more all day refinement built in.

Don't know of your location but if you can get a new R8 V10 for the price of a used recent Lambo its a no brainer.

Just toughen the R8 up a bit with a exhaust and ECU and it will leave a Lambo behind.

Plus you won't drive around in a car that most people think are tos$ers.

V10 coupe with the remap, get a tubi exhaust you have a Lambo 560/570 that drives better.

On the track I've over taken quiet a few 360s,430s,911s,lambos.

If its a everyday car why you so bothered about it been faster than anything most of the time with mine I end up driving 25mph.

How old are you if you don't mind me asking. its like most companies they won't to know you can afford the car otherwise its wasting there time. Tbh I don't blame them so many people must try to test drive them

I am in San Diego but moving to northern california- bay area for work. If I found a low cost deal on a used Audi R8 with Audi Care, I could boost it with the Stasis kit I see to make it fast as Lambo or Ferrari for the perfect daily driver. Thats the route I would take if I ever got rid of the M3. I do like the much lower cost of insurance on the R8. My insurance company gave me quote for the R8 that is less than half of that for Lamborghini or Ferrari. And I like the R8 better than Porsche its more unique. So will see.

Depends on year and price. 04-05s Gallardos can be had for 85-110k depending on options and condition. An 08-09 V8 R8 goes for 105-120. I just sold my 05 G for 102 and it was in mint condition, 6-speed, 19k miles, arianco on nero w/ LOC exhaust and fab speed testpipes. I bought my 09 R8 3 weeks before that for 120 inc tax. If you're going for the v10 r8 or 560s then 140++

The g wasn't as comfortable to drive, insurance was higher, suspension felt like a crib w/ rattles, but my God the sound was awesome and definitely turns more heads than the r8. On the highway it was definitely more exhilarating to drive the g. For SF city roads neither makes for a daily driver, (I live in the Embarcadero) but for anywhere outside of SF it's perfect, with the R8 winning in comfort and fuel eco. You won't get many looks in the r8, that's why I bought it as my sub-daily.

Of course one could also buy a low mileage Lamborghini Murcielago for same amount as a weekend show car! But would require extended warranty to cover the obscene repair costs.

Sounds like the plan I would go for. My Stasis s/c makes for a great daily driver that turns into a beast when you want. The low end torque is amazing for fun around town driving
