    Pick up new R8 tomorrow

Brand new member. A real novice. I pick up my new R8 V8 tomorrow. Can't wait. Hope I didn't make a mistake going with the V8 but I really couldn't go the extra for the V10 just yet. I am an older guy but I feel like a kid waiting for his new toy. Been dreaming about getting the car for weeks. My only experience with a sports car has been a BMW Z4 M. I'm trading that in. Never drove an R8 so picking it up and driving it will be my first experience. It's great reading all the threads on here and anticipating all the fun I'll have with this car. Only problem is living in the Northeast US where the riding season is short. Anybody put snows on their R8 and ride in the winter? I doubt it. Anyway, I'm glad to be a humble member here and look forward to reading all your posts.

    Welcome!
Several of us have or have had Z3/Z4 M cars. They are a great performing car, and a great deal of fun to drive. (see for example my Garage)

Actually, quite a few here and in Europe put winter tires on the R8 and drive it all year. Search on Winter Tires and you'll find several threads on which tire to use, and on the overall driving experience.

You won't regret the decision (well, maybe you'll regret trading in the Z4-M! ) as the R8 won't fail to reward you.

I purchased my R8 without ever driving one - you wil not be disappointed.

I live in the UK and took mine on a Northern Tour last year and had a lot of unexpected snow. Even on the standard tyres it handled ok - albeit at very reduced speeds and very gentle steering and throttle inputs

    Welcome and Enjoy!

Congrats. I think you will find the V8 plenty fast and will have no regrets.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride! I doubt the V8 would disappoint you.

I drive my V10 in winter here in Europe. It's my daily winter driver and it goes in any road condition, and I mean ANY. Fresh snow, old snow, wet snow, ice...uphill, downhill. The R8 shines when other people dare not drive

When people around crawl at 40kmh, the R8 feels safe at 80.

All you need is decent winter rubber. You'll find a lot of talk about this in the forum, just use the search function.

You're probably the first dentist on this board? although you'll find a number of other doctors around.

Congrats to you and enjoy the moment you pick it up!

i picked up my V10 6 days ago now and its been amazing 6 days already. ive already nearly run it in with nearly 1,500 miles completed as drove from south of England up to highlands of Scotland and back over 2 days...car behaved incredibly and was interesting seeing how people reacted on the road!

See a couple of pics i took.

Enjoy tomorrow and take lots of pics!

Congrats on the purchase, while I'm sure the R8 would be great in the snow I chose not to. I had an RS4 cab before the R8 and did put snows on that and it was a beast but felt the R8 was bit low for my small town roads that are not plowed that great. I live north of Boston but don't find the driving season to be that short, car gets covered sometime in Dec and start driving again first week of March so at the most it's 3 month of not driving.

Purchased ours without driving it. V8. Couldn't be any happier. By far the greatest driving experience I've ever had. I absolutely LOVE the R tronic.

    Congratulations!
