    Question on sunshades

A bit of a naive question but for those of you who use one of those multi-segments accordion style sun shades for the windshield, how do you hold it in place?
In most "normal" cars the sun visors flips down towards the windshield while in the R8, they flip down towards the occupants. This renders them useless for holding the sun shade against the top of the windshield. I've resorted to using a block of foam wedged between the dash and screen but would like to hear if if anyone has came up with a more elegant solution.

Oh, and yes, I did get on of those shield that is presumably "custom" cut to fit the R8.

    Re: Question on sunshades

I wonder if an apparatus similar to a small diameter tension type curtain rod or two piece kite stick would work if you padded each end, with a very slight amount of pressure wedged it between the A-pillars. (I was thinking telescoping or two piece so it could be easily stored behind the seats.)

I ordered mine from the Audi parts department.

Its held in place simply by its precision fit, but after a while, since it's rolled not folded, the outer edges started to fall out of position.
I guess it must be time for a new one; $45 a year is pretty cheap protection for such a nice interior.

Hmmmm...now you really got me thinking; I used to be a machinist and my current business does aerospace composite repairs, so maybe if we get a little creative with some carbon fiber and titanium...

Hahaha, a bit overkill... but hey that's where the fun is. But, you may be onto something. I'll also do some thinking and see if we can come up with an acceptable and durable solution.

    I got mine from here:

Try modifying them with suction cups at each top corner

    Exclamation Re: Question on sunshades

ZAW400820R is the Audi part number for a really nice sun screen. R84ME (Scott) gave this to me after he sold his R8. Co-incidently, just yesterday, I showed the rolled up version to Desparado. ( we were tinkering on my car a bit, shade was sitting there in trunk).I had not even opened the shade to fit it, as just never park for long in the sun!! BUT this shade is the baddest a$$ shade I have ever touched or seen. THICK, will never fall, PERFECT design, shape and construction. THANK-YOU again,R84ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And thank you Desparado for helping me with the brake flush. I have a new nick-name for you.."MR.TINKERTRAIN" YOU 'DA MAN !!!

    Re: Question on sunshades

I have the same one as S&W. Since this design rolls up into a cylinder when not in use, it stays in your front window without requiring use of the visors to hold it in place.

    Hey Harrison,

Been meaning to ask you how you have the OEM spoiler raised up like that? A bi-wing effect!

    Re: Question on sunshades

I guess I have the same one as S&W and Calbenzo...Shade has been rolled TOO tightly for too long. IF I were to flatten/iron!! it, it would be PERFECT. But us perfectionists will find a solution. RTS' idea is a good one.

    Hey Harrison,

You may have missed my post since ours were so close together, but how do you have your OEM spoiler raised like that?

    Re: Question on sunshades

I have it on a switch. Can be put into any position or raises/lowers automatically when switched on.
