    Along came the Spyder

    Hi guys,
After several 911 porsches and a few Ferraris, I finally took delivery of a new R8 Spyder last month. All Black with titanium wheels and Piano Black trim.
I can honestly say that it is by far the best car I have ever owned. The only car that is probably better is the Ferrari 458, which truly is amazing to drive. However the point is that I have an amazing car and I have saved 250k by not having the 458.
The one thing that I just do not like is the huge black plate on the front grill. I am thinking of having it removed but wanted to know if anyone has done this and if it looks any better. Some photos would be awesome.
    Jess

    Welcome

Here's something you can look at,

... and if you do like it, I don't know where you can get it, but I'm sure the others can help.

    Enjoy the ride!

Completely agree. Many states don't require front license plate. Thought there should be a kit that restores entire front grill without interruption.

By the way, have also been using the tag "Along came a spyder..". Have this as a plate on the front of my RS4 and new license plate on Spyder will read: ALONGKM
    2011 Spyder V10 MT Daytona grey/black exclusive leather/titanium stitching/white instrument cluster/tons of CF/titanium 5 spoke rims
2007 RS4 Daytona grey/black leather/white piping (daily driver with real trunk)

    Thanks.
I dont really like the "Chicken Wire Mesh" Grill. LOL
Audi Dealer just told me that it will take a couple of hours to remove the front bumper and then remove the horrible plate. It will leave 4 holes to cover. I am only thinking of doing this as my Number plate is just ONE letter. So the problem is if and when I sell the car, I will have to replace the black plastic slab so that the new owner can put his digits on it.

gazza1: the links that you provided only showed grill conversions with a smooth plate across center of grill where the license would go. Did I miss something? Looking for a conversion that would allow for uniform appearance of grill.

I would call or email those guys. They are both very responsive and if such a thing exists, they would know. OEMplus may even be able to make it for you if it doesn't.

Thanks for the tip. Have emailed both. Will post if such an animal exists or can be made.

    Re: Along came the Spyder

spent 300-400 to have front grill of v8 changed to chrome v10, done by non-stealership and it and took about 2.5-3 hours..... just in case you're curious

I would love a grill like the one in the upcoming rs5 though...

Did your newly modified chrome grill have plastic plate across it or was it free of that ?
