A FAREWELL TO MY v10 SPYDER

I bid a fond farewell to my V10 Spyder tomorrow.

As some of the longer term members might remember I sold my very much loved V8 coupe last November.

I decided to upgrade to a V10 coupe but there was a 6 month delay so in the meantime the dealer swung me a great deal on a Spyder whilst I was waiting for the coupe to arrive.

Impressions of the Spyder are favorable compared to my previous coupe.

Obviously the engine is intoxicating but I have very much missed that V8 Stasis exhaust but have massively loved the extra power of the V10.

The suspension on the Spyder is certainly firmer and feels tighter and the steering somewhat a little more direct than the V8 was but on the track the Coupe is more stable and slightly better balanced.

The Spyder is a little bit more squirmy under hard acceleration or hard braking but is still a fantastic handling car.

I was a little bit disappointed with how much wind flows into the cabin but in saying that you can hold a normal conversation and I am 6 foot.

Mics on the seatbelts work fantastic and should be put through the whole Audi range.

The newer 3D navigation unit is better than the old but still quite a long way away from what is available now in other cars or even portable GPS devices.

Its been a great experience but I won't be looking back with regret when my 3rd R8 arrives next week..

A New color(after 2 whites),a new AWE Tuning Exhaust which should sound awesome on the V10,HR Springs again and a engine that will be massaged up towards 600HP.

I have never posted a picture of my Spyder since I bought it... as I always considered it a Temp car but in the interests of posterity I have included a couple of very very short video clips

Hey gazza, are you banging the door on the wall here http://www.flickr.com/photos/6403640...in/photostream ? I see no rubber strip to protect it

I share your excitement about the new car... roughly 600HP would fit it nicely.

Spyders and cabrios are nice, but they are no racing cars. They are more fitting for a weekend cruises in great scenery rather than track wars.

I have the V10 with the awe exhaust. Great upgrade. Sounds fantastic. When the exhaust valves closed has a great rumble, when the valves are open, or a cold engine start, man, stand back. Would recommend this upgrade. With the valve switch it allows you to control the sound.

Sounds great, my only concern is about taking it out on track in Uk given that the circuits here limit cars to between down as low as 92dbs up to 105dbs for somewhere like Silverstone. I was hoping the AWE allows me to control the sound. so can you turn leave the valves closed if you choose?

    ...excuse my technical incompetencies here

You can choose to keep the valves closed, but with that setting the valves will open at 3/4 throttle.

Gazza, sad and exciting at the same time! can wait to see the new car and the exciting plans for it, just posted a pic under my GT thread of Mavericks supercharged R8 V8 now he has worked on it more, will get some video while on the Euro tour and post, it already sounded amazing, now it looks like something out of the Gumball run, i bet the police will love us lot with modded exhausts blasting through quaint Euro villages !

Re: A FAREWELL TO MY v10 SPYDER

Ok rub it in with the trip

When I was driving though some of those roads last month I would frequently think of driving the R8 and how good it would be.

Mavericks new paint is certainly not subtle and I am sure it will bring lots of attention in both good and challenging ways.

Travel safe and make sure you post some pics of the Dolomites..a truly amazing place to drive through.
