Looks like it'll be a good read when the mag comes out. Nice to see Ben Collins being used for a piece like that - really didn't like the way Fifth Gear toyed with him after he left Top Gear.

wonder if they left out the gt due to it's limited production run?

You can tell from the video that if he had been driving the R-Tronic version, his lap time would have probably bettered that of the Gallardo. And did you see the GT2 RS try and kill him a few times? lol

In the new July 2011 issue of CAR Magazine (out on Wednesday 22 June) we've pitched the McLaren MP4-12C against its most important rivals, the Ferrari 458 Italia, the AudiR8 V10, Lamborghini's Gallardo Performante, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and the Macca's long-lost cousin, the Mercedes SLS AMG. We've flown in European editor Georg Kacher and made Gavin Green empty his diary, two legends who've driven every landmark supercar over the past 30-odd years. Together with the rest of the CAR road test team they put these six sublime supercars through their paces over two memorable days in Wales.
The CAR team also descended upon Rockingham race circuit so Le Mans driver Ben Collins could lap each one against the clock. At the end of three days testing we picked our winner, the very best supercar on sale today. Yes, looks like a great line-up with considerable expense and effort in it as well. Wish the Noble M600 had been invited.

As to the R8's run I would say the driver lost maybe .5 sec on his very slight correction on turn 6 at 54 sec. into the video. He was just a slight bit over cautious on the throttle immediately after the correction. Also, that was either his fastest lap, or the only lap in the R8??

Judging by the conclusion from the Top Gear magazine review I would say the McLaren MP4-12C is faster than the Ferrari 458 Italia.

You can tell from the video that if he had been driving the R-Tronic version, his lap time would have probably bettered that of the Gallardo. And did you see the GT2 RS try and kill him a few times? lol

I agree 100%. Total Ferrari killer.

No, I wasn't implying that. I just meant that he would have had a lower lap time had he been driving the R- Tronic and saving time shifting gears. He is an incredible driver and can shift gears with the best of them. It's just that no human, even Ben Collins, can change gears as quickly as a semi- auto.

However, Clarkson picked 458 over MP4 in every category. He still nags about the 458 steering wheel, though.
