    Standing water

Living where i do subjects me to more than my fair share of rain, this morning being an excellent example. Have to say the car seems very, very skittish when "hitting" any form of standing water. Much, much worse than the cayman, i have just come from, and actually worse than the M3 before that. Now that is saying something as the M3 was like driving on eggshells unless the roads were bone dry.

Anyone else notice the R8's dislike for standing water?

    Re: Standing water

You're right, it doesn't like big standing water puddles, got into a huge tank slapper one day on a deep standing water stream running transversely across the road - treat it with respect now!!! The issue is the combo of light weight, big power, usually big speed and lastly those big rear tyres.

I wouldn't say it was skittish in the wet, but mine definitely doesn't like deep standing water, especially as the rears near the wear bars!
    Best Regards, Ian

    Re: Standing water

Maybe i didn't phrase it well enough. I was talking about what you are describing, when you hit some standing water you need to have a good grip on the steering wheel as it jerks violently and reacts in a very abrupt manner, even at 70. 60 seems ok 80mph it's close your eyes time, the whole front of the car slews sideways. As i said in my op the M3 with smg box was a real handful but wouldn't be affected by driving through some puddles, on the motorway, like the r8 is.

Just a word of warning for all of you who are not treated to water running across a motorway/highway on a regular basis.

Make sure to use another brand of rubber for your next set, it might help. The OEM Pirellis were far from great. I now have Michelin Pilot Super Sport but I've yet to go into a big puddle...
