    Lambo-"Nanny State"

OMG..loved the box in the GT-R BUT

I can't believe the quote below from a Supercar manufacturer.

“The only way Lamborghini can guarantee soothing smoothness in city driving or back-thumpingly explosive acceleration on a winding road is for every system in the car to be interconnected.

You can’t rely on a driver
to always shift gears without glitches.

    Eliminate the driver..problem solved

Also where does this leave the 2014 R8??

It does sound pompous........but probably true in many cases.

Its sad the way things are going. I was gutted when I found out there was no manual 458

I like how they word it "7-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox" so that would be automatic then

it seems the "look at me I have a supercar" drivers are out buying the true drivers who want to use the car for its intended purpose.

    Re: Lambo-"Nanny State"

80/20 rule in action here. What will manual fanatics do when Audi and Lambo go the same way? Go to another brand? Really?

    IMHO:

I think the only reason this issue wasn't dealt with several years back is VAG didn't want to blow R&D money perfecting DSG for these engines knocking out 550-800bhp. For probably half the price they got robotic manuals that perform VERY close to DSG when driving at the limit, and it's tolerable for daily driving. The feedback they're probably getting is satisfaction at the limit, but better daily driving required.

Brand DNA? I would've thought sales, comfort, the idea of going FASTER, and SURVIVING, would've been more important to the brand DNA than gearbox-feel. If this means that more R&D will go on improving the gearbox that 80% of customers want (according to Lambo it's 99%), then job done.

My uncle's got a 1984 911 turbo if anyone wants to play the "soul of the car" game for keeps anytime. No coil springs, no ABS, no power steering, and quite literally no straight-line acceleration. Flooring it, with tremendous tyre-grip on a hot dry road, it's still doing its own little lane drift dance. You can almost sense not only the soul of the car but the many many souls that have perished driving them.

    Re: Lambo-"Nanny State"

Seems like R8s with manual transmissions are accounting for more than 1 to 2% like it is in the Lambo-world. Maybe Audi will keep it, and have the old-school supercar buyers of the world beat a path to their door.

I only drive discostick, because if I wanted to play with flappy paddles all day I would've gotten canoes instead, they're cheaper.
