    V8 worth to get?

Hi There, I am thinking of purchasing an R8 V8, I live in Melbourne Australia. This is the worst country to buy cars, a standard V8 would cost 290k AUD, a V10 cost up to 370k. both in manual if its R-Tronic another 20k extra, and AUD worth more than USD atm. there is road limits every where in the city.

Just few question, is V8 a good engine? alot of my mates been telling me that V8 is about fast as an M3 or C63... they all suggesting the V10 however the V10 is like almost 100k extra, and i will properly never go down the track, and speed "Occasionally".

can i get some suggestions please? is the V8 worth to get at this point of time?

I had a C63 AMG as well. The power and general straightline speed are similar, but the AMG motor generates far more torque. Cornering and handling, they're not even in the same league, and build quality, I don't think they're even in the same sport. The R8 is far superior in these areas.

Given your intentions for your R8, it sounds like the 4.2 (V8) is the ideal choice. But come to think of it, there are plenty of people who prefer the V8 over the V10 for track duty. Either way, you're going to enjoy the car and have zero regrets.

Can you buy a preowned car from another country and ship it in without paying a huge tax?

By the sound of your purpose the V8 will fit the bill.

Outright performance is similar to the cars you mentioned.

I had a V8 for 2 years and loved it but upgraded to the V10 as I wanted a bit more go.

If you decide to buy I am happy to introduce you to a Audi dealer who cuts the best deal on R8's here in Oz.

I would vote V10. Its like a different car with the V10 V8 sounds nice but that kick the V10 has.

Import one from bankrupt Britain you can get almost new V10 coupe for £99,999($150,127 AUD) or spyder £105,995($159,148 AUD)

drifting, they have absurd taxes on cars, no matter where you buy them or how much they cost. He can probably expect to pay the same amount just on taxes.

I don't know the specific Australia situation, but sometimes a self import of a slightly used car, with minimal wear and perfect shape, can save truckloads of money, since taxes are *generally* paid on the buy price.

Sounds like the V8 will be fine. As always these days, I say look for a used one and save yourself some money.

This doesn't help, but Audi Canada is practically slicing $20k off new 2011 V8s and $10k off 2012s V8s - man, why am I poor.

Anyways, how finicky and stuck up are Aussie police when it comes to giving your car a bit more go on the gas? I did a family trip in 2005 and enjoyed it for the most part, and the police seemed somewhat helpful giving lost tourists like ourselves directions.
