    Windshield Funk

Ok, this is a weird one...

Got my R8 about 2 weeks or so ago, and no matter what I do, I cannot get the inside of the windshield to stay clean for more than a day. I get it sparkling clean when I wash the car (so far about 5 times), everything looks good when I go for the first drive, but by the end of the day, there is a hazy film on the inside of the glass. I've even switched glass cleaner and from purpose made glass cleaning microfibers to paper towels and no difference.

The only thing I can think of is maybe some sort of outgassing from the glue they used on the full leather dash, but not sure. Anyone else heard of this before?

Oh, by the way, other than that the car is absolutely the most perfect car I have ever had!

Two weeks. Five washes. Sounds about right for a new owner ;P

Not sure what to tell you about the glass. I use Adam's and I haven't really had any problems.

    Dirty white car = bad!

Just out of curiosity, do you have the leather or standard dash? I'm wondering if something in the process is the issue.

You might be having an air conditioning issue from the front vents under the windshield.

    Re: Windshield Funk

Possibly. I will manually adjust the vents to dash level rather than auto tomorrow. Thing is though, it does this when the car is in the parking lot. Fine when I get there, but then when I come back out a few hours later, the windshield is foggy. It's an odd pattern too. Not the whole windshield, just parts of it through the middle.

Whatever it is, it's hard to get off too. Not like condensation.

Oh, and also it's 100+ degrees here pretty much every day right now, so that may be a contributing factor.

    I have the leather dash.

    Does sound AC related.

Have the dealer leak check your A/C, as it may be compressor oil (maybe).

One other thing to consider is did the dealer apply some chemicals to the dash as part of their prep. Armor-All is notorious for causing haze on the inside of windshields.

    Re: Windshield Funk

So I have driven the car the last two days with the A/C on manual, with the vents blowing out the dash only and no difference. I guess it is time to take it to the dealer. Thing is, it only happens when the car is sitting in the parking lot. I thought maybe it could be some Armor All type substance on the dash, but there doesn't seem to be anything on it. Looks and feels just like all the other leather in the car, with no sheen or anything unusual (I hate that stuff anyway). Unless it is something new they are using to glue the leather to the dash with, I am stumped. Hopefully they can figure out a solution, because having to clean the windshield every day is a nuisance.

The attached photo doesn't nearly capture how bad it is, but you can see it at the bottom of the windshield.

    Re: Windshield Funk

I get a little bit of something like that on my windscreen. Never tried to remove it and assumed that it was condensation from the AC vent.

    I'll check it out tomorrow.
