    Tourist ride at Nürburgring

I am sure that there are many on this forum that have taken the drive over to the Nürburgring to track their car. I also want to give it a try!

But I am unsure which event to participate in. They have real trackdays (which come around relatively seldom according to event calender) and they have tourist rides:
    http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/angebo...dschleife.html

The track day seems to be reserved (mostly) for racing teams who wish to practice. As I have no track experience, I would not think that this is right for me?!

But the tourist ride? Anyone can take their car out on the track, as far as I understand. Anyone here who has gone on the "tourist ride" day? How is it, still allowed to floor it?

I need help to decide whether it is worth a 9 hour drive in each direction...

As a European you should really know better given that the Nordschleife is right in your back yard so-to-speak.

I have been and it is good fun, take it as easy or push it as much as you like because the others can just overtake you anyway.

I suggest you do some research. This website is a good place to start.

I live next door to a sausage factory. It doesn't mean I have the foggiest idea what is going on in there.

That could well be the most random thing I have ever read on a forum

nurburg is open a lot of the year depending on weather we went a while ago and just brought a pass but I've since heard they don't do it anymore. I would go for a package rather than just keep paying the 24 euros.

make sure you have full comp insurance most uk insurances have clauses to say you are not insured on the ring.

I will be going soon for a shag/leaving party next month

Tourist ride day would be most suitable and you can drive at your own pace.

You just need to be very mindful of your mirrors and be very aware of faster cars or bikes coming up behind you.

There are no restrictions on speed on these days.

I have enjoyed the ring on 3 separate occasions in a rental car each time and it is fair to say have not been of a competitive nature.!!

Drive within your own limits and just be aware of the other cars around and you will be fine.

I think a Audi club HPDE event would be in order prior to a the Nurburgring. You will have more fun at the ring and you will be dramatically safer.

Haha, best comment I have read on here in a long time...
Not quite sure why I should know better, given that the Ring is 900 km from where I live. That is why I turned to this excellent forum!

Thanks for all the other comments.
I have on my to-do list to check insurance, but I am expecting that driving on the ring will not be cover...

gazza1: The rental cars that you drove, did you have them insured for driving at the ring?

Based on your comments, I think the "tourist ride" is actually perfect for my needs. I will take the trip and try to drive well within my limits. After all, this is my first time.
Probably an Audi club HPDE event, as suggested, might be in order later on...

The cars were a purchase lease on a brand new factory car from Renault each time.

So it was not a "rental".

There was no clause in the contract specifically mentioning the Ring etc but it did state it could not be used in competitive timed events.

So my defense would be its a public road and I was driving sensibly on a country scenic road.

Thankfully I never had to test this theory.

Doing a HPDE (=Sportscar Expierence in a R8 V10) you will drive on the Nordschleife but "only" on the GP-Track. I've done it last year and it was nonetheless an exciting event
