Purchasing a used R8

Not to many used R8s(none) come up for sale in my area. Most likely the car I find will be shipped. I plan to have a pre purchase inspection done at a local dealer even if under warranty. Good Idea?

I purchased mine in Ohio and most definitely had it inspected by the local dealership there before shipping. It will avoid any issues with something happening during shipping and then the shipping company saying "it was like that when we picked it up"!

Best idea is to buy an R8 from someone on this forum. Get it right and you end up with lots of lovely mods already done for you. So tell them what you are looking for and maybe you get lucky. The money spent on shipping could be insignificant relative to the aftermarket investment - assuming that you keep the acquisition Stateside.

Most definitely do a PPI at the very least, not sure how thorough Audi's PPI is though. You may want to also consider a third party shop inspection. If it's a manual car I'd also want to know the overrev data.

Use car-fax also. My report showed that my '09 had the transmission replaced (no reason as to why) at about 9500 miles - if I'd known, I'd NEVER have purchased it (w/11,997 miles on it). I'm scared to do a car-fax on it now, as the car's been a nightmare and has had to have a few other things changed out too like the entire steering system and many of the electrical components.

Yes, the car's still under Audi's warranty and has had everything taken care of free of charge thus far. - and I must say that my dealership is extraordinary, as they have never even flinched at the TT setup.
