    Spyder leather seats and temperature

Hello, new member - planning to order a Spyder sometime around the new year.

I keep reading about the seats, and how they never go above 68 degrees.

How does that work? The literature talks about a special coating, but are they also actively cooled? If they aren't actively cooled, it seems like they would eventually reach ambient temperatures, regardless of sunlight or coatings.

They say the leather is treated with some process. I've heard people on the forum saying it really works.

The only way these seats could be actively cooled though is if a really cool guy is sitting on them.

Where did you read they never go over 68 degrees? I agree they should reach the ambient temps.

    Audi's website says this (quoted):

Innovative thermal resistant leather ensures seat temperature does not go above 68º F, even in direct sunlight.

As a spyder owner (red leather), I find that claim very hard to believe. I will say whatever it is treated with surely helps out immensely, but to say the leather surface temp cannot exceed 68 degrees would be false from my butt thermometer. I've been told by the last chick with a bikini bottom on that it was quite uncomfortable... ha

Yeah, the only thing I could think of was ventilated seats. I have those in my truck, and in my wife's SUV - but they only are active while the car is running. Though just maybe Audi was doing something similar, but it sounded much different.

As a side note, i think audi should have ventilated seats as a option on spyders. I would have gladly ponied up extra for that option

I have the black "enhanced" leather and in the direct Florida sunlight it doesn't ever get hot, though I have my doubts about it staying 68 degrees. Money well-spent, IMO.

Yeah I agree. I'm actually pretty surprised they don't have them.

If you leave the car out with the top down in direct sunlight, you're going to get some hot seats. They're definitely cooler than "normal" leather seats, but still can burn when you're wearing shorts. Best not to leave the top down when parking outdoors anyways. It's easy for jealous people to scratch or cut your interior.
