Need to install Euro plates on US spec R8...

Just relocated to Germany and I stopped by a dealer to look at what's different for mounting plates. Looks like I'll need the euro front grill (I was quoted around 400 euros for one) and I'm hoping I can use some type of adapting bracket for the rear. The guy at the part's counter stated the rear bumper would need to be swapped. Anyone have any info or advice?

If I am not mistaken, you just take the US plate holder off the rear bumper. Then just affix an EU plate to what is underneath.

Interesting...my car isn't here yet so I can't check, but I was curious if there is already holes that will fit a EU plate.

I don't know definitively, to be honest, how the EU rear plate mounts. Maybe someone here can chime in. Even if you don't have the perfect mount for it I would attach the plate with strong double sided tape or find a way to affix in an unobtrusive manner after taking the US plate holder off.

The US plate holder is used for Japan, Mexico and other regions with the EU style bumper. So you definitely do not need a new bumper cover as that plate holder works with all styles of bumper US and EU.

    Cheers,

Seems simple (and obvious) to just drill holes in the plate.

The solution is to use the European Plate frame/holder.It has many different mounting holes allowing a Euro plate to be mounted anywhere on any car. I got my Euro plate holder at Lamborghini Stuttgart. Just the advertisement on holder is different from most of the Euro plate holders!

Wont be an option for me since I wont actually own the plates. I have been doing some searching and I've found that Mercedes offers a plate holder that works with both US and EU plates. I'll check if Audi makes one as well.

I don't really mind swapping the front grill because I think the EU style looks good. But I'm not buying a new rear bumper nor am I drilling any holes.

Thumbs up Re: Need to install Euro plates on US spec R8...

The holes for mounting rear plate are spaced for U.S. plates .

Right, but does the EU bracket also have holes that will match the US spacing? I have a German-spec BMW here and the EU plate bracket has a lot of different mounting holes. I guess I could always drill holes in the bracket.

All this just to mount a rear plate? Just use some sticky pads.
