DRL on full LED headlights on V8...same as on V10?

I was just wondering if anyone here knows if the DRLs on the V8's full LED headlights are the same as they've always been on the V8s, that is that they're not tightly placed together like they are on the V10.

I'm contemplating the installation of the LED headlights, but just want to be sure I don't end up looking like I'm pretending to have a V10.

Not sure what you're asking, but my V8 had the optional full L.E.D. headlight system, and they are identical to the V10. Including the DRL's.

Re: DRL on full LED headlights on V8...same as on V10?

Oh, thanks. This is what I'm referring to:

Normal V8 headlights (note the LED strip that forms the DRL)

Full LED headlights (note the tightly spaced and smaller LEDs in the DRL)

It seems that I may have answered my own question in searching for these two photos, as that second photo looks like it is indeed a V8, and not a V10. So my only question then becomes whether I like the tightly spaced LEDs or not (which I didn't before, when I only saw them on the V10).

It's the same with my car. I have the full LED headlights and they are identical to those of the V 10

I'm a little bit disappointed that Audi did that, actually. The original design on the DRLs were, to me anyway, more distinctive and helped to distinguish the V8 from the V10 as you see one approaching or in your rear-view mirror. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with the stigma of looking like I'm driving a V10 if I do indeed upgrade to the full LED headlights.

I think the reasons Audi build only two different types of headlights were the costs. If they would build 2 different systems for the V8 and one for the V10 it may be much more expensive. And i think there a not so much V8 owners who order the full LED system

Personally, I prefer the standard V8 spacing rather than the V10. The overall look is more aggressive, at least that's how I see it.

What are you trying to gain from the switch, if you prefer the V8 look then I assume your either after improved night vision or the green credentials the all LEDs offer.

I'd stick with the standard, but that's just my opinion.

I'll admit, I myself like the "look" of the standard V8 DRL's, but when you use the full L.E.D. V10/optional V8 headlight system at night, you'll forget all about those more spaced out DRL's....

    That would make sense.

It's a bit of a long story. One week ago, I was driving down the highway when a fairly large stone came flying across the median and hit my windshield. What I didn't know was that it actually skidded across my hood before it struck the glass. The resulting damage was a 2-inch scratch on my hood plus a fairly noticeable rock chip on my windshield (right in the driver's line of sight).

Naturally, I took the car to the insurance company so the estimator could have a look at it. But prior to doing that, I stopped by the Audi-approved repairshop that I know quite well and they said that I can't be seen driving around in the car with that ugly scratch on the hood. So they actually polished most of it out, but still visible to me because I know the precise location of where it had been.

So I take the car in to the insurance company to meet with the estimator, and I'm having the hardest time trying to pinpoint where the 2-inch long scratch is! But upon hearing my story of what happened, the estimator started looking all over my hood and my front bumper for "associated damage" and detects a number of rock chips and small scratches in both of those body panels IN ADDITION to a significant amount of small chips and scratches on my headlights.

To make a long story even longer, he very generously approves my claim for the windshield replacement, and also gives me the go-ahead to repaint the hood and the front bumper, as well as instructing the repairshop to inspect the headlight lenses to see if they can polish out the aforementioned scratches, with an advice to replace the headlights in the event polishing doesn't do the trick.

So I'm going over the estimate with the repairshop, and it dawns on me that if I were to ask the repairshop to order for me the full-LED headlights, I'd happily pay the difference, and be able to enjoy even greater amounts of night-driving safety, provided I can overcome the small problem of having my car look a little bit more like a V10, which it now turns out shouldn't be an issue as even V8s get the same exact same full LED headlights if the purchaser had so ordered them on his/her car.

I too will miss the look of the normal DRLs.
