You need a VF Engineering supercharger, anything else is a waste of energy (and money).![]()
If the R8 is anything like a Porsche, just drill a couple 2" holes in the airbox lid. The power loss from doing this shouldn't be enough to notice.

Could it be enhanced engine sound is the purpose of the existing fine screen in the airbox?
We have speculated about its purpose before on R8Talk: Standard R8 Airbox breathes HOT Air!!

My ears don't pick up much induction sound from the R8, even with the hatch open. One of the great things about Weber carbs was that delicious "sucking" sound an engine with only "gravel strainer" air cleaners made when you opened the throttle!
Even an Alfa 1750 4cyl. sounds like it could suck you right into the manifold, and the induction sound from a Ferrari Testa Rossa with downdraft Webers (heard one running in the pits @ Monterrey last year) is enough to almost be scary!
I suppose, voracious breather that it is, the reason the R8 doesn't make much of that sound is a sign of free breathing, no carb venturis, etc....but it is a minor deficiency in the "visceral sensations" category![]()

By hatch open, do you mean the air box lid removed? Porsche's motor sound kit was little more than air box lid with holes in it. If removing the lid on an R8 doesn't add noise, I would blame it on too much sound insulation around the cabin.
That same noise you used to hear with Webers ought to be there with the wide open inlet runners on an R8. My Morgan 4/4 has twin Webers. They're positively deafening on the freeway. I can even hear induction noise over the straight pipe exhaust.

The idea of drilling holes in the airbox lid is interesting. But the engine bay could pick up a lot of dirt.(it stays surprisingly clean ) I am a big fan of the Weber 48 IDA down-draft carbies. They are easy to tune, and I can alter their sound to a deep throaty sound by running a little rich, or lean them out a bit for a screaming higher pitch. This is on a VW street bug, 2016 stroker motor. The sounds these carbs make is unreal, especially with the engine decklid still on.

What you hear on your Mog, THAT'S what I'm talking about. A sound I like!
By "hatch open", I just meant the rear engine hood up.
My guess would be that that "sexy" (only to a car guy!) induction "sucking" sound you get out of a couple of 45mm Webers is from the carburetor's venturis accelerating the air flow as they suck in and atomize the fuel.
That whole process DOESN'T HAPPEN in an R8....induction system is JUST to let in air, in an as unobstructed way as possilbe, fuel being directly injected into the cylinder.
So, little by little, we old car lovers have to give up the visceral sensory experiences that used to go along with driving a powerful "road eater."
Having recently driven my son's PRIUS across the US to help him out with a relocation, I can tell you that I do NOT LIKE THE FUTURE
(but what the h*** are you gonna' do about it)
PS: LOVE to see a pic of your Mog and some details! MAYBE you could get away with a post in "off-topic"? After all, if a man can love many beautiful women, certainly he can love MORE than JUST his R8![]()

Yeah! I'd love to hear an Audi v8 or v10 running without the plenum on top of the velocity stacks! I love that top picture and I've gazed at it before: are they indicating
some kind of valve or vane down those velocity stacks (the sl. darker blue rectangles)??
Seems to me that there shouldn't be any restriction, or venturi in a velocity stack, since the object is to maximize air flow volume to the injectors (which in a Hilborn unit are outside the intake valve but in the audi inside). As I recall from some exposure to Hillborn mechanical units with velocity stacks on hot rods many years ago, the stack length is inversely related to optimized engine speed: long stacks for low end and short stacks for high end. Sort of tuned like bugles or trombones, I guess!!
