Ordering a Spyder soon, questions on options

I'm looking for opinions on a few options before I order - thoughts are welcome!

1 - perforated steering wheel - is that the only difference, perforations for $250 extra? Or are there other changes that aren't obvious? Is it really worth it, then?

2 - White vs black gauges - I've only seen the white gauges in person. Which one is easier to read, night vs day?

3 - Carbon fiber inlays for the engine. These are much more visible in the coupe with the glass window. I'm having a hard time justifying $1800 for a Spyder.

4 - Wheels and tires. I'm looking at PQ1 - the polished Y spokes, but there seems to be conflicting information about the tires that come with that option. The ordering guide just says summer performance, just like the standard, which are 295 rears, while some of other options specifically say 305 rears. The Audi USA website says 305s with that option. I can't seem to get a definitive answer, though - which is correct?

5 - Stasis vs APR, will post my questions here in the Performance/mods section.

Re: Ordering a Spyder soon, questions on options

1 - The perforated steering wheel is just perforated leather. Personally, I'd get this. Not so much for when the car is new, but because I think the wheel will hold up better as it ages than if it just had plain smooth leather.

    2 - No opinion.

3 - I have the carbon engine components in my Spyder, but only because that's what the vehicle had. It's nice, but I'd skip it if ordering a Spyder. You can see it if you pop the rear lid, but how often do you do that? I also have the carbon door sills. They are quite nice, and at least you see them a little more often, but I'd have skipped that too. I also have carbon mirrors. On my white car, they add a dash of style, so I like them very much.

4 - I have 305's in the rear on my V8 Spyder with polished wheels, but these are not the V10 Y-spokes. My understanding - but I really could be wrong here - is that only the polished and titanium-colored "V8" wheels are wider. Personally, I dislike the heavy-looking Y-spokes anyway, and would choose one of the wider "V8" wheels.

5 - The car is so good already that I wouldn't bother with either.

    Cheers.

I could be wrong about this nowadays (but it was true when I ordered my v8 coupe):

The titanium and polished wheel options come with 305's on the rear, BUT I am pretty sure that the rear wheels supplied with the car are ALWAYS 19x11.0 inch wheels (with a 50 et), regardless of the finish on the wheel (including the "stock" silver painted).

For some reason, when you order the optional finish, you get 305x30-19 tires instead of 295x30-19 tires.

At least that was true when I ordered my 2010 coupe.

I am pretty sure the perforated steering wheel is thicker than the normal one. Having used both i thick i prefer the normal one.

Talking of which does anyone know if the GT steering wheel can be secured yet and fitted on a normal v10?

Have also used both steering wheels, I prefer the normal one. The perforated is thicker.

This is a highly individual choice. I prefer the feel of the thicker perforated sport steering wheel - maybe it's my big hands.

I find the warning messages and conv. top operation symbol somewhat more difficult to see on the white gauges during the day. Have no difficulty at night.

Share your feeling and decided not to order. No regrets.

I believe that all the optional wheel selections now come with 305 rears. The exclusive order guide indicated that my wheels would come with 295 rears. When the car was delivered it had the 305's mounted.

Am still trying to decide as well but, leaning toward APR. One of the primary reasons is convenience - the authorized dealer is only 20 miles away.

1 - The perforated steering wheel - YES GET IT!

    2 - White Face Gauges - YES!

    3 - Useless

4 - I don't know, I'd have to look at the order guide again.

5 - STaSIS Exhaust and Tune at the very least
