    The r8's first day out

Was invited to the local Yacht Club with some Porsche's for Sunday Brunch yesterday.

    At first I parked here:

Next to a new Gull Wing Mercedes.

Well,, the Valet Manager saw this car and said,, NO , you are going to park under the canopy so everyone can see it. In my turbo no one ever gave me special privileges like that so I ended up here:

Everyone coming in and out took pictures and admired this car.

Of course every guy knew more than me about the car and told their significant others all about it,, Lamborghini engine, etc.. I just listened and laughed to myself.

This car is very photogenic!!! I just couldnt stop the D90 Nikon from taking lots of pictures.

We ended up at the water front after brunch.

Of course my wife had to drive it. She loves the gated shift unfortunately.

Its not the Porsche Turbo but this car has its own ambience. It stands out in the crowd and admired by almost everyone as a fine automobile.

Its first day out was a big success.

One day...one day this will be me.

I loved the anecdote of the rather "demanding" parking lot manager.

NO, DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200, GO TO THE FRONT GALA IMMEDIATELY.

It was a blessing really in that direct 115 degree sun,, the car body was really hot to the touch so going underneath was a god sent for me and the car.

The Mercedes was a bit ticked off,, no one realized the value of his $280K auto, most thought it was just a SL AMG, he left in a tiff.

This R8 has instant fame to most everyone I have met in the 4 days of ownership.

I am sure there will be lots of stories to follow.

Already lost 2 races... Mazda M6 and Dodge Ram Truck. I will NOT go over 4,000 RPM at least for 500 miles so yup,,, they beat me. When my redline increases from 4,000 to 8750 I will be back.. lol

AND I must have the only wife on here that loves Manual Transmissions. I cant win...Even her Toyota has a 5 speed manual.

$280 for SLS AMG? I thought they were like $170 USD - they are about $200 CDN here and probably $225k out the door.

Memo to self: stick with the R8 - there are some dealerships even desperately trying to get rid of "older" V10s as low as $140K CDN in Toronto. Yup, still a tad out of my financial reach lol.

Re: The r8's first day out

    Thanks Guys.

This car grows and grows on you by the day. I thought I would never leave the Porsche brand and probably wouldnt have if the Audi's were not in the next showroom and I had too see them on each visit. Once the Spyders came in last year I had the feeling a new P Turbo S was not in the cards for me.

Until I break this car in a few months from now I won't write any comparisons to the 997 Turbo or general observations.

I am taking the Spyder into the Dealer tomorrow to check out a few minor problems non engine/drivetrain related.

It definitely the most beautiful car I have ever owned.

I just cannot WAIT to shift at 8,750 rpm's vs 4,000 now.

Note: my dealer had a gull wing out the door with guzzler and state tax and options for $278K and that is where I got the figure from in the above post. At the time it was mind boggling that a Merc could cost that much. There probably was an additional dealer markup on these xars when they first came out. Now they go for $225K ish out the door.
