    using the SD card

Is there anyone who might know of a site or place to get info on how to transfer music to an SD card.
I know the basics but not sure how to form a playlist or file. I download what I think is a playlist but when I search it says NO PLAYLIST available.
Would appreciate any help on where to get more info.

You just move or copy the folder with your songs to the root of the SD card IIRC. How you organize them is up to you, but if you have a folder filled with hundreds of songs it will be hard to find what you want when you play them. Most people use a folder for each artist and perhaps subfolders for "albums". If you do that it is pretty easy to scroll to the artist you want. You can also organize by genre if you like.

Unfortunately, there is no automatic playlist function like with the ipod. You will have to manually make playlist folders on the SD card with your PC. I don't think there is even a random function, but I don't remember for sure.

I use both the ipod and SD card. Most of my music listening is by album or artist so I usually use the SD card for music. I use the ipod for talk playlists and podcasted NPR since iTunes will automatically gather that stuff for me. I suppose I could use the SD card for everything, but it would be a little more work and I like having the option to auto-sort by genre or generate random playlists.

    Thanks for the info Steve.
I just noticed that I cannot play the MP4 that I bought from I Tunes.
Funny because I assume the I phone must be in MP4 format and the system does read that.

    Because iTunes is generally AAC.

    Re: using the SD card

You can sort them by files lust loaded onto the SD card, or organise them by Artist->Album->Songs

I found the later just takes too long and if you plan to constantly update, its a headache.

    What I do is:
    1. Make a playlist on iTunes (all songs must be converted to MP3, easiest way to do this is burn to a music disk, then immediately rip them back converting them to MP3)
    2. Highlight the list and drag all files to the SD card.
    3. You're done.

There may be file extension labeled ._.MP3 duplicated. They will be displayed, but the player will skip them and play the music files.

They will not be in the same order every time, so to me I would keep my playlists small and only have the music I want to listen to.

Any more and I would suggest you go to either MP3 formatted CD's, or buy the Mini USB adapter cable ($60) and plug that into your AMI with a 500GB hard drive with a backup of all of your MP3 files. Better than an Ipod.

    Re: using the SD card

Thanks Tony. I just called Apple and they told me how to convert from MP4 to MP3. Here it is as it might be better than burning on a disc.
    Open I tunes> Edit>preference>general>import settings> choose convert to MP3
Then choose the songs you want converted and go to ADVANVED>create MP3

Seems to work, but then you have to erase the MP4 or you have double files. Hope it helps out

That'll work too. My method is more for songs that you've purchased from iTunes that are "Protected AAC."

    Re: using the SD card

I just put 600 songs on the 16 gig SD card I bought.

I just copied the MP3 songs from my DOS directory and pasted them into the 16 gig drive. Hardly used any space but thats all the songs I have.

It works great in the R8, just tested it.

I also set up voice recognition in conjunction with the blue tooth phone and it works great. I have a Blackberry, it hooks up automatically when I start the car up.

The instructions in the Audi Manual in general are well laid out and easy to faciliate.

Disregard... Not too long ago you couldn't turn a Protected AAC file to MP3 through iTunes.

Just checked it now, and it worked.
