    R8GT Spyder

Just read on Pistonheads that the GT spyder will be available in left hand drive only! I don't think that will go down well with the UK prospective owners, I was certainly not aware of this and the price in the region of £200K!!!

Loving my GT even more now

Confused on its accuracy of reporting.

I had dinner with the Audi MD here 3 weeks ago and he confirmed that Australia has already been allocated 5 Spyder GT's for next year.

Either somethings just changed or 5 drivers here will have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

    Hi Jerry,

Are you sure that info is correct? there are 66 Spyders coming to the UK, one hopefully with my name on it and one with a mates name on it, i for one will not be taking it in left hand drive and feel sure my mate wont either, it would however be good for your future value yes!

I will see what i can find out

    Hi Colin

I was only quoting the report on Pistonheads, a couple of other sites say the same but others say righthand drive will be available. I really can't believe that Audi would supply LHD to the UK or Oz. I think PH's also over estimated the price too, I think it will be more in the region of high £170's.

    Has your GT gone yet?

Yes, Jerry i agree, if you remember our convo with the Audi bosses at the British GP they had indicated people would be looking at paying no more than £20k above the coupe.

Yes, sold my GT about 6 weeks ago, its gone to a good home in the UK and not overseas, my dealer helped me as it was a registered car in my name, it did fetch a good premium! eventually, the market is tough for cars like this but there are still a few out there with the money to spend.

Down your neck of the woods next week at the boat show

    Re: R8GT Spyder

I was indicated a extra $40k here on the GT Spyder over the GT coupe which is a similar gap to the standard V10 coupe and Spyder.

One more concerning point was my dealer(who very much looks after me on price and trade ins)were talking numbers if I purchased a GT coupe and i did a changeover in a year when the facelift lift comes along.

It was challenging to learn that the GT here with only 5 in the country will attract a deprecation over 12 months of around 25%-30%

So surprising for a car with such limited availability.

Colin..always look forward to reading your new philosophical outlooks on relationships. Good one for this month!

Real tough one this, with the car in such limited numbers I don't think anyone really knows, I guess if I was too worried about depreciation I would have bailed by now, but 25-30% ouch!!!!

    Re: R8GT Spyder

jh00 I was in your neck of the woods in Poole yesterday having arrived on the boat from Guernsey to have the R8 MOT'd at TCVS this AM and then to Portsmouth for a visit to the DVLA today.

We stumbled upon a black F458 at the Holiday Inn last night too.

Back to Guernsey tomorrow afternoon from Weymouth and the R8 is now sold!

Just a footnote of historic, and nostalgic comment:

I took factory delivery of a new Volvo 1800S in August of 1966.

Up until ABOUT 1968 (don't recall the exact date), Sweden drove "on the left" (as we colonials call it) as you do in the UK. Yet almost all cars (British makes the general exception) in Sweden had "left hand drive"? Even the Swedish market domestic Volvos (that I saw, not sure if there was a choice) had the controls on the left (though RHD cars were built by Volvo for the British market!...go figure).

Sweden was a very rural country (except for the 2 metro areas) then (and still is somewhat today), with a LOT of gravel highways and light traffic outside of towns. But overtaking and passing were still sometimes an adventure, as was APPROACHING someone who intended to pass...what with all those LHD drivers ducking out to the right to see if it was clear to go!!

In today's traffic, especially in GB I would think, it would be very hazardous indeed to have your controls on the "wrong side," though I know people still do it quite often.

    Re: R8GT Spyder

I've driven for years with the wheel on the "wrong side" in places with far more "extreme" driving conditions (drivers) than the UK without any issue.
