    Talking Owner To Be

    Hello Everyone,

I have just begun my research on the R8 and this forum has been an invaluable resource thus far in teaching me a lot about this wonderful vehicle . Thanks to you all for being such wonderful R8 owners and giving so freely of your time to help each other
So far all I have decided for sure is to order a new 2012 V10 Coupe but have not been able to finalize what color or how to option the car so I was wondering if anyone knows of a group of R8 owners in South Florida that has some kind of regular get togethers that I could attend to try to finalize my decision on the color and options. I think I would like either white, black or daytona grey but looking at pictures on the web isn't enough to make a good decision on this subject
Please feel free to offer suggestions on options and anything else I should know about the R8.
A little background about some of my current and previous vehicles:

Backdraft Roadster ( 1966 Shelby Cobra Replica ) - current
    BMW X6 - current
    BMW F800GS - motorcycle current
    Toyota Prius - current
    Subaru Outback - current
    Nissan Titan - current
    Porsche 997 C2S - gone
    Lotus Elise - gone
    Porsche 993 C4S - gone
    Porsche 996 C2 - gone
    BMW Z3 - gone
    Audi A3 - gone
A bunch of other cars such as Fords, Hondas, Toyota, Mini, Alfa, etc

Thanks in advance for all the help!

A bunch of other current and departed cars and trucks

Boy oh boy, so many previous P-car owners coming over to the dark side lately (or should I say bright side). Gotta love it!
Options really come down to personal preference, and what's important to you personally. FWIW on colors, I believe Daytona gray is no longer available for 2012 models (other than the R8GT, I believe).

    Re: Owner To Be

I love Porsches and almost went back to buy a TT or GT3 but figured it was time for something different... I've been toying with the idea of picking up a F430 manual ( very rare) but at the end of the day figured I would end up keeping it in the garage more than driving it! plus 2 of my partners have F-430s! boring....

The news about the Daytona is horrible! I'll kill myself White or some other color will work just as well....

    thanks for the info!

    Re: Owner To Be

My take, if you are undecided:

    * Manual (more engaging), though the R-tronic's sound is delicious on down-shifts.
    * Daytona Gray (your personal preference, but this is probably the best all-around choice). Yes, Daytona Gray is still available, at least per the U.S. 2012 configuration site.
    * Polished V8 wheels (controversial on a V10, but I prefer the lighter look).
    * Enhanced leather (mandatory!), black, with contrast stitching of your choice (anything but red).
    * Alcantara headliner (nearly mandatory in a coupe).
    * The Spyder is 400% more awesome, but that's also a personal preference, especially as it's less practical.

    Cheers.

It looks like the R8 would be your best upgrade to date

    - Definitely Manual! i like to row my own boat ;-)
    - hopefully Daytona is available otherwise I'll pick another color;
    probably white Ibis
    - Agree on contrast stitching but dont see any options other than red and some kind of beige?
    - what is the material of the normal headliner?
    - I would go for the spyder buuuttt, I already have a convertible and I really must have the glass engine cover. If the spyder had the glass cover over the engine then I would go for the spyder...

    Thanks for your input!

    Re: Owner To Be

It seems there are more stitching options on the spyder than the coupe. Just get the beige. However, it should be understood that contrast stitching can be an issue some years down the road. Applying cleaners or leather conditioner, etc., can stain it. Simple black stitching does not have this problem. So if this car is for the long-haul, you might want to get black/black stitching.

The normal headliner is the usual sort of fuzzy stuff. It's not bad, just not as luxurious. I don't think the standard stuff extends down the windshield frame.

The Spyder will never have a glass engine cover in its current incarnation. The roof folds into the space above the engine. It's still 400% more awesome, though!
