    Buying R8... need advice...

I have the option to order a 2012 R8 at invoice.

A: is that a great deal?

B: if I was going to sell in a year which would it be better to get : base V8 w/carbon blades/side mirrors/convenience package for around 114k or base V10 w/carbon mirrors/blades for around 147k (V10 comes w a lot of other options standard)

Reason for selling in a year or so is I have a deposit on the first 991 Turbo and ultimately want that but also want something fun in the meantime without losing too much $$$

Last choice is a GT-R black edition at Sticker price.

    Please advise????

I want the V10, but something tells me the V8 for 114k will hold it's value better.

By sell, do you mean trade in? On a $100k car you save a lot on taxes by trading it in (~$10 grand for me). I would definitely consider trading it in rather than sell outright. Most dealers will buy the R8 before you buy 991 and let you use it as a trade in when the 991 comes in. I'm sure the 991 turbos will be sold at MSRP so you'll get a good sense of what they really are offering you on your R8.

I just recently sold my 997 turbo to a Porsche dealer because I was going to pick up a Turbo S but instead went for the R8. My Porsche dealer said I can use the car as a trade in for up to a year which works out as I'll be on the market for a Cayenne Turbo during winter.

With that said, go for the V10. 2010 $170K original MSRP V10 R8's are going for $140K pre owned with less than 10k on the odo. You're able to buy a brand new 2012 for only $7K more than that? Jump on it.

I'm really curious as to what motive a dealer has in selling one of their allocations for invoice especially a 2012 that hasn't even been built yet.

I dont think he will be able to flip it for the same price in the summer. I've seen a number of 2010 R8 4.2's with MSRP in the low $130K sell for less than $107k (one with only 500 miles the other with 1,800 miles). It looks like we are going into another recession and I think as more r8's come on the market prices will continue to fall. With that said, $114K for a new 2012 would be a very good deal and you will not loose much when you go to sell ($5-8K is my guess). Go for the 4.2 at that price IMO.

I'd take the 4.2, best compromise between fun/price and protection against the upcoming global recession/Greek/Italian/Spain bank failures. Not a time to be risky.

It's always suprising how far prices fall with little demand in a bad recession. And if one comes, it will be bad.

Not all states allow that. In California you pay sales tax on the full amount, no matter how much the trade was for.

I tend to lease cars here. (Other than the R8, because the lease residual is terrible for it)

Wow, that's crazy. I had no clue Cali was like that. That's worse than your costs for yearly registration (isn't it a ratio of the price of the car?).
