    Activating the front Parking Sensors

One thing that nearly caught me out with park assist was that you need to chuck it nto reverse to activate the system. Never had front sensors before, so pulled into space and nearly hit the car infront.

Am I doing something wrong? Now, I put it in reverse and then the front and rear sensors work fine.

Will have to check on my car but with my wife's MB GL, the front and rear sensors are activated when the car drops below about 15mph and when placed in reverse.

It should be like other vehicles, and activate below a certain speed. But can't you also press the (far/lower right) button...

Correct. To turn on the front sensors either: select reverse first, or use the "P" button below the shifter.

Seems extremely LAME and potentially a point of failure to remember to press the button every time you pull into a parking spot. Isn't that why we have computers?!? German engineering at it's finest. Is there a logical reason NOT to have it automatically engage at low speed?

My 2011 X6 does not engage park assist automatically unless you put the gear in reverse or press the park assist button; same as the R8

Wouldnt it get annoying the beeping in slow moving traffic?

Have to agree, beeping in traffic would do my head in. Now I know what the button on the right of the shifter is for, I believe Audi has come up with the best solution. You can decide to keep it on or leave it off. Haven't noticed if the button stays on when you leave the car and use it the following day, probably need to press it each drive if you like the beeping.

Re: Activating the front Parking Sensors

The only real problem with the Parking Button is that it displaced the TPMS reset button that is located in that position on other models and was shown on the pre-release R8s!

I do wish they had remembered to add the TPMS reset function back into the DIS menus for us.

[P.S. - I moved these posts about front parking sensors into its own thread, as we were getting off topic in the original thread.]

I guess Lexus is smarter than Audi, the Lexus park sensors never beep in traffic, and it is always engaged.

FWIW, if you're that close to the car in front you deserve the beeping. For safety, I would advise you to leave at least a foot distance between you and the car in front of you in stop and go traffic. I guess most people never learned the proper driving rules/skills... you should not be so close to the vehicle ahead of you, that you cannot see their tires.
