I have a tip....as you're coming to terms with the R-tronic transmission, and you begin experiencing some of its unique characteristics, please search the forums before starting yet another thread about "R-tronic issues". Thank you.

Oh, and congratulations on the car.

oh I been reading a lot about the rtronic ...I too was under impression it was an automatic until I read a lot of these threads. BTW I want to lift the detune that I keep hearing about with APR sound good?

Lots of folks will give you different opinions on ECU tuning for the R8, but personally, I think the gains are limited on a normally-aspirated engine, and so I wouldn't bother. But that's just me. I also prefer to avoid any of the unnecessary hassles of having to deal with the service department saying the ECU tune means they won't honour certain aspects of the warranty. Not all dealerships are that way, but you never know. I'll just err on the side of caution.

I guess I can't agree with u 100% only because the way I understand it is that r8 and lambo share the same engine and based on what I read here on the forum sounds like it make sense due to marketing reasons. BTW both Lamborghini and r8 both are NA non Turbo engines

I think you've misunderstood what I meant. I'm aware of the fact that the R8 5.2 has a slightly detuned version of the same engine as that found in the LP560. So even if you were to get an ECU tune on the car to bring it back up to the power level of the Lamborghini engine, you're really looking at a gain of about 35 horsepower at the crank, much less than that at the wheels. I just don't see the point in doing that because for what is essentially very minimal gains, you risk the chance of the dealership not honouring the warranty because the engine's been remapped.

I had a C63 AMG a short while ago. Its engine is also deliberately detuned by the factory for marketing reasons, producing about 50 horsepower (at the crank) less than other AMGs that also have the M156 engine. I have friends who had their C63 engine remapped by reputable companies like Kleemann, and simply because the ECU had a Kleemann sticker on it, they were refused warranty service for some engine issues that cropped up.

If it makes you feel better getting the APR ECU tune, go for it. I know plenty of people here have done it (if not with APR, then Stasis, or other tuning companies), and I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. It's just that I don't think there are huge gains to be made doing an ECU tune (unless it's coupled with several other modifications).

    Peace out.

I believe the words I used were "minimal gains".
