Who will be at BIR on Oct 8/9?

I tried to register tonight and got all screwed up. Hopefully I can get it fixed tomorrow. I got far enough to count 5 R8's I think. Who here is going?

I hereby reserve the bottom rung in R8 lap performance. Don't any of you guys try to knock me out of that position

Les Malmquist, Nader, Nader's cousin and I are the only ones I know that will be at BIR October 8-9th. It would be great if more R8's would make it up to Brainerd International Raceway. The Glacier Lakes Quattro Club is in need of participants. We usually join with the local Porsche club, but not this time.

I cleared up my registration problems and am set to go. Question for you - I notice in the tech inspection form, they ask for high temp brake fluid. I have stock fluid - should I get it changed out before I come, based upon your experience on that track? I have tracked elsewhere and have not had an issue.

    kthacher,
Are you still located in Canada per your profile? I don't know what the rules are for brake fluid change in Canada.

Your profile does not say what year R8 you own or whether it is a V8 or V10 so I cannot say if you should change your brake fluid.

I ran once at BIR, two years ago, at this event, with the factory fluid. My car was less than one year old at that time. I changed my fluid out before my next track session. I change my brake fluid at least once per year.

There are many threads on the forum on what is needed to access the brake fluid reservoir. Think a $300 bill from the dealer just to access the brake reservoir. They need to take off 11 parts to get to it. My dealer cut an access hole and had Audi Racing provide a cover at No Charge. You should read threads and show them to your dealer or if you are handy you can make the modification yourself.

You can PM me with a phone number if you want to discuss in greater detail.

Yes I am in Canada, and have the V8 MT. Turns out that the stock fluid has a dry boiling temp of 446F. I am currently working with the dealer to put in a higher temp fluid. I am likely going to pay too much for it as I don't really have the time to make the mod to make this whole process easier. Motul seems hard to get here. The guys at the Audi Club are warning me about turn 3, so I will attempt to be conservative and go with the better fluid. I have been watching some video and that seems like one fast track.

The freshness of the fluid (how recently it has been changed) is even more important than the rating of the fluid. I'd definitely recommend you flush the fluid before going to a heavy-braking track like BIR.

If you arrange it in advance, IMOLA Motorsports can change your fluid at the track Friday night or Saturday morning. They can also cut the hole in the access cover so you don't need to have it taken off with every change of fluid. Tell them you are a friend of Don's...wait better not. JK Tell them they can use my car for the opening measurements.

You do want this done. I store my car at IMOLA in the winter. They are great guys.

    Don,

Thanks for all the help. I just sent an e-mail to Imola Motorsports to see if they can perform the work at the track.

11 parts to be removed, 300.00 for removal labor ? Was this just a mistake? I purchased the Motul race stuff online for a descent price. Funny thing, brake fade usually happens at the very WORST time.

Not a mistake. The dealer cost in MN is $300.00 for labor, plus fluid. The dealer only wants to put OEM fluid back in.

I talked them into cutting the access hole for free and I had IMOLA Motorsports replace the fluid.
