SD Card Slot

On the older (08-09) model R8's can the SD slot read a card that's more than 2GB? The manual I think says it can only take 2GB but just wondering if maybe anyone has tried a 4gb or 8gb card? The newer R8's can handle 8gb I heard? What year did this change happen?

I think the difference is that the newer models can use SDHC cards. These cards are usually 4GB+

However, you can find a 4GB SD (non-HC) card possibly ebay etc.

I think the changeover occurred on 2010MY but not 100% sure.

Edit: I think there is also a file count limit so having a larger card may not make a difference

Newer SDHC cards are backward-compatible with SD cards. That is, you "should" be able to plug SDHC cards in and they should work. However, they will likely show up as 2GB only. The rest falls into some sort of black hole. Of course, compatibility is relative. It could easily be that only some cards really are backward compatible.

I tried several different SDHC cards with my 2009 nav and none worked, as in, the unit would not be able to read them at all.

I then bought 4GB SD cards off amazon, which worked. I then went and upgraded my nav unit and now use SDHC cards in it.

I've never heard of this before - I had a few SD card readers i..e my monitor from dell and none of them worked with the newer SDHC cards at all. I wish they made them backward compataible somehow!!

You can use 4GB if its SD (not SDHC). I bought these off of Amazon UK and they work:
