    Question R8 Navigator is deranged

    I bought a V10 R8 a couple of months ago which is a year old. I find the navigator is great to look at but totally useless! It often send us on ridiculous diversions - typically it will suddenly decide to go a hideously long way round and then as soon as we ignore it and go the sensible route it will recompute and decide that our route is 30 minutes faster!

    I have bought a new disk for £160 but it makes no difference. We now use a portable navigator which is vastly better (originally I named it but do not want anybody to think I am advertising). The navigator in my 9 year old Audi RS6 is primitive but better and I am very disappointed that the R8 navigator is so pathetic

    Anybody else experienced this? Apart from this, the R8 is a fabulous car ...

    The Nav. in my 08 R8 was the same as yours. I updated the disc to the 2010 and it remained dismal. I love my Tom-Tom !!

    I totally agree
    Its seems that it goes out of its way to round the houses,and the voice its like be ordered around.Me to have resorted to a portable satnav, but apart from that a great car in all respects.

    The Nav button should be relabeled as Naff.

    Our UK friends will understand what I mean.

    Well, you've got to be sure you've got your routing settings on "fastest", NOT "shortest";
    I've had it come up with some outlandish routes when on "shortest" (using pedestrian paths, etc.) but I have to say it's been pretty good on "fastest", though the inputting of destinations is WAY too time consuming & difficult;

    I have been quite impressed with the FM traffic service.....on several trips through the Seattle area it has suggested a re-route when I-5 has been bottled up, and it gives you some choices: continue despite traffic or choose 1 or 2 alternates. I've had portable navs with automatic traffic routing, but this is the first built-in nav I've had with it.

    I use a Tom-Tom too. My son's Civic has a great NAV, touchscreen and intuitive. The Audi NAV is nearly impossible to use.

    Re: R8 Navigator is deranged

    I used the Nav for the first time today to get to Silverstone. Checked the settings to make sure that it was on fastest, I have a Navigon portable and shortest is a pain, so I made sure the R8 was on fastest.

    To be honest, I thought it worked absolutely fine, got me to my destination, in the time stated.

    Like WillyJP said, make sure it's on fastest.
