    Question Brembo brake rotors?

I'm looking for advice on the brake discs,

on track days using the OEM rotors and pads they over heat fast
and the pads they mess up the rotors really fast and i end up with a squeaking noise every time i brake on the street ( which annoys me ! )

Now im thinking of getting the Brembo 380x34 but i have questions ( i dont know a lot about brakes )

    - obviously it will perform better then the stock Rotors but what about the wear of the rotors ? i meen its slightly better or there is a huge difference ?

    - which pads should i get with the brembo rotors that are for road and track use ?

    - do i have to change any other part on my car when installing the brembo rotors ( other than pads )

Brembo's are good. You can also look at Stasis solution which I have on my car. If you have a V8 car you can also add air deflectors which are std on V10 that direct air to brakes to cool them. There is a post in the Wheels & Suspension forum on this. Its key to get pads that take high heat as the problem with hot discs is they burn the pads down and the material sticks to the disc making them out of shape and hence vibration etc. I use Pagid blues as they don't squeal on the street but might look at higher heat pads as these do degrade still on track. The problem with pure track pads is they never heat up enough to be effective on the street and they squeal. Rotors should last a long time as long as they don't get overheated and warp. I think both Brembo and Stasis have wider cooling vanes in the middle and the vanes go in the right direction both sides (Audi uses the same disc both sides of the car and one is in the wrong direction for good cooling). Hope this helps.

Think about a ceramic brake setup instead. It might be a cheaper choice for you as it sounds like you might go through at least a few sets of pads and discs in the very near future due to heat issues.

you're talking $12k for fronts only and upwards of $18 for back and front on ceramics. A good set of Brembo's or Stasis is $2500 to $3500. Is your car a V8 or V10? If V8 look into the air deflectors that fit on the suspension, they can help a lot to cool the brakes.

    Re: Brembo brake rotors?

Currently I can do ceramics at a great price, well below $12k + $18k, very nice pricing but limited until someone purchases it up. The ceramic system will eventually pay for itself if you routinely run through several sets of discs and pads a year. There are obviously added benefits to the ceramic system as well, the weight of the rotors is amazingly light in comparison to any steel rotor, longevity of the components, etc.

If the ceramic system is overkill the STaSIS or Brembo upgrade are a great pick. I am partial to the STaSIS system since I know it well and it's a front and rear upgrade, not just the front like the Brembo. The STaSIS upgrade setup includes front and rear Alcon rotors which you will not run into issues with and can be used with stock pads or anything as aggressive as you want, of course I'd recommend some good track pads for on track use and aggressive street pads for standard daily use.

If you have any questions or either the ceramic system or STaSIS setup don't hesitate to PM or email: contact@europrice.us

    Re: Brembo brake rotors?

Well pad choice does depend on your needs:

The blue are going to be softer on rotors when your brakes cold and have better cold "bite" meaning they will likely feel a bit more effective once you get moving. The yellows will be a little more aggressive on your rotors when cold, however as temp rises they will get you slowed down a bit quicker. The yellows will handle heat a bit better and will likely last long than blues.

Personally I like having a sensible street pad and good track pad from the same manufacturer to swap in and out for street/track use.

    Re: Brembo brake rotors?

No, swapping pads will not hurt your rotors. The best advice is to stay within a manufacturer because their different pads tend to work with each other on one rotor.

I can't tell if anything will squeak when braking before you try it. The more aggressive the pad the more likely it will grind and/or squeak, especially when cold on light application.

I have recommended to a bunch of owners here to use anti-squeal rubber backing plates, but I don't know if anyone has tried it yet on the R8. I use them on every car I've owned with Brembo calipers. Oddly I've had noise issues with every type of pad in multiple 4 piston Brembo calipers, but the Alcons no noise.

They work great from my experience and cheap to boot.

I am using STaSIS (Alcon) rotors with Pagid RS29 Yellow pads front and rear... no squeaking.
