    Audi R8 V8 or V10 Spyder?!?!

    Hello, lucky Audi R8 owners.

I want to hear you guys opinions on the two engine choices.

Today, I showed interest in the R8 V8 model that my local dealer had. I liked the car, but I thought it would be better off to pay a bit more and get V10 version. I asked the dealer this and he recommended the V8 version.

His reasoning was that V8's power is already enough. Also, V8's maintenance cost will be lower than V10. Then, he said, in the future, V8 will have better resale value because people will want to buy V8 that has enough power and lower maintenance cost.

What do you guys think? I think his explanation sounds logical. But who knows what sales man would say to sell the car?

Your opinions will be great help with my decision about my R8!

    Thank you!

Depends on what you want. If you want ground stomping power, the top of the line and price is not a big issue then go for the V10. If you just want to get into an R8 and drive primarily on the street then then go for the V8. I don't know if maintenance costs will be significantly different but it doesn't seem like that would be a primary deciding factor for a car like the R8. Don't know that I follow, or believe his logic on resale value.
I have a V8 and am very happy with it. I drove the V8 and V10 back to back before I bought and for my casual street use there wasn't much difference by the seat of my pants measure --both were incredibly fun. Big price tag difference, about $35k as I recall.
As background, I've had mine about two years and drive it year round. Still love it every time I drive it.
    Good luck with your decision!

    Regards,
    Baer

Such a nice reply! Thank you Baer. Yea I don't think I need that much of power. And $35k is pretty expensive for something that I don't need haha.

Is your R8's transmission R-tronic or manual?

I strongly suspect that he is simply making up reasons to get you to buy the car he has in stock. If it were a V10, he'd find reasons why it is the better buy. Chose what works for you and you alone. If your local dealer doesn't have what you want, make them find it for you or shop somewhere else. You should really try and catch a ride in the V10 version in order to fully be able to make an informed decision btw. Personally I believe it to be well worth the $35K difference. YMMV.

    i agree with the bishman.
also personally i think the V10s power was worth the money.
Also factor in many options on the v8 are standard on the V10.
i disagree with the resale value.
V10s are more rare so they will have better resale value.

As an owner of a V10, I don't see how the V8 could have lower maintenance cost than the V10, my costs are so far on par with any other Audi model...

Wow! I wasn't sure what his true intention of telling me that when I talked to him over the phone, but now that I hear from you guys, I think he just said what he said to sell me the stock.

    I don't appreciate that...

And technomania, when I buy one, it is going to be manual for sure, haha.

Btw, is V10 version better because of the better acceleration or just overall better?

And thank you all for the valuable advices!

Technomania, since you owned both V8 and V10, you might know the answer to this maintenance cost business. Is it really true??

    Re: Audi R8 V8 or V10 Spyder?!?!

I've owned both V8 and V10 currently. If there is ANY difference in maintenance costs at all, I'm betting it would be hardly noticeable. I chose to go with the V10 due to the minor aesthetic (more aggressive) appearance, and of course, the power.
If your budget permits, I'd suggest the V10. But either way, an R8 is just that,... an R8!!
