kinda like riding in a tt but a little stiffer ride. switching on mag ride is like driving a brick down the road on rails
Thanks for the reply.
I suspect you are talking about the two different magnetic ride modes. I am interested in the ride of a car with no magnetic ride,
Depending on WHICH shocks you use-Non mag ride could be pleasant as is the stock R8 with out it. Or if you have race shocks the ride would be even stiffer than the mag ride in stiff setting.

My R8 doesn't have mag ride, personally I find it both smooth yet sure footed. This is my first super car and it's the best ride I've ever had. To me it feels like it's on rails. You'd have to really push it to cause any trouble.
I am looking at a standard non magnetic ride car. I am wary of cars in which the ride is too firm - I had a V8 Vantage with sport suspension which I thought was too harsh. I currently have an LP560 with standard suspesnion which seems fine. I never used the mag ride feature on my previous R8 as it was too harsh for constant use on UK roads (they are poor!), although I am sure it would have been perfect for the track.

if the car had mag ride fitted then you would have been benefiting from the adaptive damping no matter which mode it was in. sport mode just firms it up.I never used the mag ride feature on my previous R8 as it was too harsh for UK roads, although I am sure it would have been perfect for the track.

You are right of course. The question is how does the basic suspension compare to the Mag ride off setting, even although there is activity from the damping system. Or put another way - are you losing a lot even although you never make use of the full mag ride firm mode.
I remember the first r8 videos that the audi channel on sky used to air - the car they showed in that didn't have mag ride. was being driven about by a former racing car driver but can't recall his name to find it on youtube. not exactly an unbiased source, but he seemed happy with the non mag ride setup.
added: the driver was tim harvey, but the video on youtube is a much shortened version of what they were airing on tv and it doesn't include the suspension bit.
