I went from a 550 ps tuned by RS Tuning 997 Turbo to a tuned R8 V10 and say unequivocally that the Audi is a finer ride for a street car.

Might be a bit biased having bought a V10 recently but had also tested the turbo s pdk prior to that.
While the turbo s is almost certainly the quicker car, in all other respects I thought the R8 was a good deal better and one felt rather more plugged into the driving experience in the R8. The turbo S is phenomenally quick when putting your foot down though I have to admit although you tend to notice that more from the ground flying past you with increasing speed than much more of a sensation of speed. As with all such cars, would suggest test driving both before you come to a decision.
Performance = 911 Turbo S
Looks and holding it's value and overall WOW factor R8 by a long shot. Most people can't tell a Boxster from a 911 turbo s.

I didn't have a TT but I came from a 997 GT2 to the R8. GT2 was faster and better on the track, but for my purposes...daily driveable supercar w/ phemomenal looks, there is no current competition for the R8 5.2 in a similar price range. Drive them back to back if you can.

Not sure the R8 would hold value better than a 911. I've had a couple Porsches and did very well on resale. As others have said, you need to drive both before making a decision.

Please, as this response is not meant to offend in any shape or form (and I'm feeling a bit ornery this fine evening), but I always get a kick out of someone that comes to this, an R8 site, and then asks "Should I get a ______ (Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, Yugo) or an R8?"
R8 all the way!!!
Actually, the responses are always good and many of the people here have a lot of experience with said rides (well, maybe not that Yugo...), so it is a good place for such a question. It just tickles me when it happens.
Welcome to the site and hopefully the correct automobile in your garage soon (aka the R8).![]()

im looking to buy a 2011 v10 spyder and i have a super price on a new car ..but concern of resale value in 3 years when i want to move on.
Hi Topshot, I currently own a V10 R8 and a 997 911 turbo (non S)-both 6MT. I personally prefer the R8...looks better, more fun to drive, and sounds way better. The turbo S is definitely faster but the 911 turbo looks pretty much identical from MY 2007 to 2012. Its looks a little dated to me...the positive can also be a negative though as the R8 draws exponentially more attention. Also I would never get a turbo S as they are only available in PDK, I'm a manual fan and find the PDK boring. Might I suggest you get the R8 now and wait to see if the 991 911 turbo is significantly better. Both great cars, hope you make the right choice for yourself.
thanks for the replies, keep them coming... do agree that the 911 might out perform it,,, but I won't be racing it anyway... already have a ZR1 and a SL just think I would like the sound and ride of the R8 to add to the garage. Really kind of want a R8 GT......
thanks
