    Ok, I have to ask...

why are there so many posts about depreciation and resale value? do you guys just buy these and immediately order another upon delivery? I mean, honestly... I've wanted a car like this forever, and now that I've finally broken down and bought one, I cannot imagine ever getting rid of it. Even if I did trade it in later on something newer, isnt this one of those "if you have to ask you cant afford it" types of things? I mean pissing and moaning about 20k here and there seems a little odd to me. am I wrong?

No, you're not. However, for someone getting ready to drop major coin on a new 2012 with the potential of a re-fresh on the near horizon and the R8.2 here in the next couple of years; I can see how some people might be a little concerned. I mitigated mine, (concerns) by buying a 2 year old R8 with 3K miles that looks like new.

I agree with you, PS. For the first year buyers, paying a premium and selling with little depreciation, it was clearly different. But now, there are enough cars out there after about 4 years of production, the R8 should depreciate like any other car. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the car and I'm absolutely thrilled to get in it and drive it every day.

I LOVE MY RIDE! What else beyond that right there means anything?

ok, so you guys mirror my thoughts. buy what you like and love it. I have an 06 BMW K1200R that I couldnt imagine ever trading in. I drooled over the bike for a year before buying it. same thing with all my crap. I just dont see why the concern over value. happiness has no market value.

I have at least 1-2 cars on order at any time. I don't keep any car more than 1 year, then move to the next car when it comes in. It's my hobby, all cars bought are meant to be sold. Given this nasty hobby, getting out of the car with a reasonable loss is important. If I can't get out safely, then I don't buy the car, and get something else. The R8 market is now not safe, that's why sales are depressed, and depreciation poor.

Put a deposit down on the new M5 last week, will move out the Audi A8. My Turbo S will go for the next 911 Turbo. R8 will go for the next facelift.

Everybody buys cars for different reasons. Don't let the white noise bother you, get what you want and enjoy it. Ignore the rest.

Because a lot of people only drive the car for a year before they trade for another vehicle. That's why you see so many one-owner vehicles with only 2-3k miles on them. They expect to pay 10-15k a year for depreciation and hope to trade at the end of the year or after 2 years.

I have to agree with you 100%. Personally I love cars, bikes nice paintings and so on but I just don't purchase something for the hell of it, I have to like/love something to enjoy looking at it, to make me happy and then I go buy it it doesn't matter to me if it is $100 or $1.000.000. I'm not going to order something be all exited expect it for months dreaming about it and then when I receive it drive it for a year worrying how I'm going to lose 15k or 20k........like you mention before ''If you have to ask you cant afford it''

I don't see anything wrong with people talking about depreciation and resale values - the idea that it shouldn't be talked about reminds of of the comments that get made in mpg threads. To me, it has the whiff of snobbery and posturing.
