Audi V8 COUPE VALUE DROP ESTIMATIONS??

Hi since my last post, i visited my local audi dealer which actually is one of the biggest in the uk and saw a audi v8 black with beige leather (WOW
was looking to trade in early for it, but numbers simply are not adding up... so may hold on to my audi till the duration of the plan and then look at trading in. The only question i have is how much do you think the r8s will drop if at all or not by much in the next 12 months when my plan is up...

The car i saw currently was spec'd as :
    2007 audi r8 r tronic
    black with luxor beige interior
    15000 mileage
    bang and olufson system
    sat nav
    driver info system
    bluetooth
    currently asking price is 57k

It will definitely continue to drop, and even more so as you get closer to the inevitable launch of the 2nd-generation R8. But on the other hand, it'll be 12 more months that you will not have the pleasure of driving the current R8.

Re: Audi V8 COUPE VALUE DROP ESTIMATIONS??

The r8 still remains a lot of car for the money, and it's not being diluted by people being able to buy a cheaper "similar" car (like, say, a hot 3 series vs an m3). It remains an aspirational car and as the price drops, the demand comes in steps - we saw this before, where price of used r8's actually rose for a while.

On top of that, autotrader is only listing 88 v8 r8's for sale across the country - compared to twice that number if people want to get into a aston martin vantage for example.

I personally don't think the next gen r8 is going to have too big an impact either, as people looking at early example used r8's aren't likely to be in the market to buy a next gen r8 and the new car doesn't alter the choices for them getting into an r8 any more cheaply. The biggest impact will be on nearly new "old shape" r8's, where it's not so much of a leap for people to choose to buy the new shape vs buying used.

I think over the next 12 months, the asking prices will not drop all that much - I think prices will be sticky at the £50k mark due to the mental price barrier thing. It would make total sense to shop around and see what deals you can do to get away from their asking prices though - dealers have targets to hit and these are still big ticket cars for their used sales divisions.

There are already several 2007 R8 V8s on Ebay and Piston heads at well below £50k, personally i cant see them dropping much lower than £40k as there are not hundreds and hundreds for sale, so if you bought one private for say £47k i would not think you would lose a great deal over 2/3 years ownership, just make sure you buy a warranty with one as repairs can be expensive.

Re: Audi V8 COUPE VALUE DROP ESTIMATIONS??

Interesting, I've always stuck with autotrader and audi approved used for my searches - didn't realise those other sites had gained as much traction as they have for cars at this end of the spectrum.

the one's on autotrader and pistonheads are running £47,500k+, which I still think of as playing with the £50k mental barrier - dropping below £45k would be the next mental step which starts to pull it down into high end saloon territory and opens them up to more people who are stretching from a £40k ceiling.

agree about the warranty, and it would make sense to check out the quality of the warranty, especially when buying from one of the less well known car dealers. there are a few threads on this site talking about third party warranties for r8's.

Re: Audi V8 COUPE VALUE DROP ESTIMATIONS??

I would agree with randombloke, there definitely seems to be a 50k barrier, yes there are some just below, out of a 122 cars there are 8 (autotrader), but if they're decent cars they do go quite quickly.

I think that R8's are in a different league to high end saloons, i recon I see a least 1 M3 or M5 every day, but since July the only R8 I've seen is my own, and out of these three cars, the R8 is the only head turner. All those M3 & 5 owners will soon jump ship to an R8 when the price gets close and that behaviour will support the price.

Also agree with the warranty, I would be scared to death without one.

That's a good price, I reckon that car 12 months ago would have been 60k. Westover Sports Cars in Poole have a 09 v8 up for £62k, well done happy days

that seems crazy low for an audi approved - was there any obvious reason for it (high mileage, previous crash damage etc)?
