So why waste money on ceramic brakes? Seems unless you track often the stock brakes will do just fine

Ceramics will allow you to spend more time on track without fade from overheating (if your tyre pressures allow) and will last longer (Rotors up to 250k Miles and pads on average 4 x longer), side by side there is nothing in the performance of stock steel v CER, I have attended an Audi invitational R8 day and taken part in a test session to prove just this.

According to desperado from a thread briefly discussing ceramic brakes a few days ago:

"While the Brembo carbon ceramic brakes (CCB) stop great and are very fade resistant, they are not a lifetime piece of equipment. The pads do need regular inspection and replacement. And the discs wear, too. That's why there is a minimum thickness and minimum weight specification shown on each rotor's aluminum bell (hub).

I have the Brembo CCB on my Corvette, and the pads were completely done at 7,500 miles! Of course there were a number of track days in there but the point is still valid - even if you don't track the car the pads do experience wear. It doesn't help any that the ceramic pads on the CCB start out thinner (only 3/8") than those on the standard brakes. I'm told to expect the discs to need replacing about every two to three sets of brake pads depending on how hard they are used."
