    Buying too early?

I just sent in my check today for my R8 5.2. I also just read at the middle or end of 2012 they are facelifting the R8 and adding a 7 speed dual clutch with a little increase in horsepower.Am I a fool to move ahead with this purchase.Depreciation alone will probably kill me.Will the 7 speed dual clutch be way better then the Rtronic? Did I make a mistake and cancel. Please advise.Maybe I should not worry because it might take a year or 2 till they perfect the 7 speed. There is always something new on the horizon.Your timing can never be right on cars.

Yes, your timing is off. I'd cancel.

Just being honest. The transmission change alone will be the killer of both old transmissions.

Cancel and transfer deposit onto the new facelift and be first in line.

If you don't like it as it gets close to release and all the information is available..you can always go back to the current model at a end of model clear-out price.

Well I decided to move forward and buy the 2012...I am sure it will be 2 years before the new 7 speed will have all the loose ends tied up plus many of you here are driving 2012's and are basically in the same boat as me.I am excited and will hoefully enjoy this cars for many years to come. The RTronic can't be that bad if it has been in use in the R8 for 5 years plus the new GT's.

It does not matter if the 'loose ends are tied up", it's what the public perceives as the better tranny.

It's not like a 7 speed dsg is new to anybody, it'll be perfect right out of the box.

    re: Buying too early?

You may have to wait a year for the facelift, by that time the new R8 will be on the horizon, which will reduce the value of the original/facelifted model regardless. Perhaps a used model and a deposit on the next generation might be the best idea.

From personal experience I think DSG is overrated. OK if you want to drive in Auto mode, but manual mode can be dull. Rtronic is excellent as long as you do not drive in Auto mode. Do not listen to the nonsense spouted by motoring journalists or people that offer an opinion based on a 10 minute test drive never having tried an automated manual before.
