If you ordered option 7X2 but still want the MMI display to aid parking visually (option 7X4 - parking plus) this is a short guide showing you how to recode your system and enable the MMI graphic display. This works either when you select the reverse gear or via pressing the parking button.
Before starting you need the following items.
VAGCOM lead
Before recoding any system settings YOU should RECORD the original values to enable you to revert back if needed.
Select module 10 (Steering) and option 07 (coding)
From the menu select long code helper and you will be presented with a long string of numbers in blocks of 2.
Select the first set of 2 numbers (this is byte 0)
From the menu set bit 4 to active by clicking on it - it should now turn blue and a tick will appear in the box
Escape from the menu and you are return to the long code screen, commit the changes via the "do it!" button
Select module 37 (Nav) and option 07 (coding)
You will be presented by the default help (values) screen as shown below.
As you can see from the help screen, no option is listed for OIA (Visual parking). The help values are not that good, so dont read too much into them.
You need to change the 3rd byte xx?xxxx (value) by +2. The value SHOULD be 1 by default, so this means the new value should be 3. (I'm not aware of any R8s or TTs having a value of 0 - but never say never).
Commit the change via the "do it!" button.
You now need to cold boot the RNS unit in order for the change to take immediate effect.
Easy way to do this is via the adaption channels and select the cold reboot action and setting the value to 1.
Once the unit reboots you can test the coding via both the P button and by selecting reverse gear.
You should get the following display.
