Decision Help - purchase now or wait

I purchased the 2012 TT-RS in September but never really intended on keeping it longer than a year. Some things have changed financially and I've been thinking about moving into one of either a Ferrari California, a Lambo Gallardo or an R8. I went down to the Audi dealership over the weekend to test drive the R8 v10 Spyder and next door to test out the Lambo LP550 2. I love the Gallardo, love the power but prefer the styling of the R8. While the Gallardo is faster I love the sophistication and comfort of the R8.

I'm leaning towards the Ferrari California, primarily because it is more of a grand tourer and I love the idea of the hard top. The audi dealership had a black on black v10 r8 spyder that I test drove and while on the test drive the sales rep told me they would love to have me trade in my TT-RS and give me this r8. He said I could get nearly what I paid for my TT-RS (which is no surprise given its exclusiveness and demand) and that I could get the spyder for as much as $15k to $20k off MSRP.

So, i've been thinking about trading in, putting a little down if I needed to and moving into the R8 until the 2014 comes out or until the 2013 is out (if I like it) and the Ferrari California 2013 face-lift comes out.

I love the TT-RS. It's unbelievably fast and i've had it on the track....it's a freckin monster. Trading it in for the R8 would obviously be a step up and I would love to have a convertible for the summer.

Question is, is there a substantial reason to wait a bit or take advantage of the great deal on the R8?

Tomorrow is NEVER guaranteed. Enjoy today, what may never come tomorrow. At least that's how I justify it.
Best of luck in your decision. And feel free to post pics of the TT RS!

If you went to Audi of Henderson, and drove the blacked out R8 Spyder, that was my Spyder if you want the cars history (immaculate/perfect, properly broken in, and mostly driven by my ex-wife who drove it cautiously). If you drove the new one that was on the showroom, then nevermind! Either way, you can't go wrong, they are all nice vehicles.

Not sure what you do with your car but the R8 is great all rounder. You can drive it all day then take it to the track and put down some super quick times. I've been told the Gallardo is pretty similar.

One thing with ferrari I recent had a 458 I'm embarrassed to admit it but I did spin mine (weather wasn't great but it just went!) its harder to drive than a GTR and R8 I know some other ferrari owners will agree I don't know if the California is the same I've only ever sat in one but its something I would try before you buy

Very nice!! Yes, Joe and I were looking at the all black Spyder you had. He told me it was sold, so...SOL.

I wasn't really looking at getting into an R8 until I saw what the facelift would look like but I think the deal they were offering me was a pretty good one and it would be a full $70k cheaper than the California. I definitely wouldnt mind keeping the R8 for a year until the 2014 is out.

    My humble advice is..

Trade your TTRS and buy the Spyder.. but also ask the question FIRST..what if I a put a deposit on the facelift as well and what can you provide as a guaranteed trade in.. on the contract for the current Spyder.

Once you see the trade number, you will know what to do...buy now or just wait for facelift.

If its too wide and costs a lot of money..just wait for the facelift.

Any good dealer will commit to a next purchase/trade in value down the road

I've just made the same move.
I had the RS TT and i've recently got a black spyder.

After 6 weeks of ownership would i still do it again? No. Id keep the RS.
RS is faster to 60 and has roughly the same cabin layout/technology.
R8 is wider and its not really a car you can drive anywhere and just leave - its gets lots of attention, but that's the worry - who's messing with your car!
R8 face-lift is about to come out and the prices are dropping like Enron shares did back in Dec 01 already, gods knows what will happen to the resale value if the R8 does get the new informatics and the big overhawl thats romoured on here. (im told this wont happen, but who knows until Audi release the car).

Don't get me wrong its a nice car, but its no better than the RS (if performance is your thing) MPG is about 13 vs 25 for the RS and given its not too difference in cabin style to the TT - it just doesn't feel special. So, looking back i dropped another 65k on-top of my TT to get this. I dont see where the extra 65k has gone.

I'd wait and see what the face-lift brings, then re-evaluate then.
    Sorry...
