Alright R8, are you a daily driver?

    Hello everyone,

Glad to be apart of the forum.

I have been thinking about this car for 2 years now. And I think its time to go for it. But I am using this car as a Daily and want to get some input from the owners here. I driven an 10 v8, and tried the spyder v10. I was wowed away by the spyder... but I don't think a v10 is a good option for a daily driver.

    I am looking at an 09 V8 4.2

    1. What yearly maintenance costs do you guys have as a daily driver?
    2. What are the most important things I should look for when buying a used R8?
    3. How does the R8 do on long road trips 10+ hours?

    Regards,

    Slug R8

I drove mine yesterday to get bread and mushrooms from the grocery store - in the snow!

Review after review, the R8 is hailed by many editors as a competent daily driver.

    1. Depends how much you drive but im assuming yours will be a DD so lets say 15,000 km a year? Factor in tires, oil changes, brakes and your probably looking at $1500-$2000 per year.

    2. Buying new or used? If used, look for low mileage, service records, previous warranty issues, and perhaps spend the dough on extended warranty.

    3. Longest ive driven in the R8 is around 4 hrs so i cant comment beyond that. Otherwise, it rides like a regular A4.

I have a V8 spyder and use it most days for the school run amongst other things but ive not driven it for 4 hours straight.
Not sure id want the V10 over the V8. some of the reviews say the V8 spyder is as good if not better (less weight i guess) than the V10.
without doubt, its not as fast, but it also eats less fuel. V10 noise is better, but its all subjective.

I dont feel the extra cost (new) is worth the benefits - depends on spec, but i got a lot of the options for next to nothing ie MR LED headlights.
Not sure what the NA specs are, so it may not be relevant to you

Its easy to live with. When I get home I'll be using my V10 its currently 1c with a bit of snow so unless the snow gets too deep for the ride height I'm using it

    1. Does depend on what you do with the car as to how much it would cost I expect mine to cost $5000 that includes lots of tyres and brake parts services after track days ect

    2. Same as the guy above. Some very good deals on new in the uk and states not sure on Kuwait tho

    3. The R8 is good on the highway I'm lazy so I use crusie control so I don't have the urge to over take everything It can be retrofitted a r8talk member has done it i checked

Its cheaper than a woman, I tell ya

Drove it 11 hours (used V8) at one point with no problems other than wished people didn't look at me (prior to the glass tint).

It's not only cheaper, it also nicer to you, and it gives you back for taking good care of it. And when you don't want it anymore you just sign the dotted line and it's gone, it won't take half of your life with it.

It works beautifully as a long distance hauler. Did a 2500 mile trip in mine in complete comfort.......and speed.

I've had a red spyder v8 for seven months. I drive it every day here in sunny Florida. I love it. I'm 6'4" have driven it twice on 6 hr. trip. Using cruise control I can stretch out fairly comfortably. Good luck.
