Aspiring Audi R8 Owner...Best Option For Me?

I'm so stupid... The title is supposed to say : "Aspiring Audi R8 Owner"

    Hey everyone.

I am in the process of looking to buy an Audi R8. I would love to have a white one, but any color would be fitting. I need it to be manual, and I am only looking for the v8 model...Before you say something...yes I am 16 years old. I have recently bought a Honda Accord v6 2012 and , to be honest, shot myself in the foot. I paid 32,000 for it up front. Not really thinking, I bought the car. (I will never do that again! ) Now that I have enough money, and a little more "intelligence," I am in the state of buying an Audi R8.

My question is : What road should I follow?

    I have ~ 110k to spend.

    I was wondering if I should get a 2012 R8, or a used one...

I found a beautiful 2009 R8, matching exactly what I wanted, but they are asking 110,000 for it. I didn't really want to spend all my money and savings on it, however.

So should I do more research for a used one, or finance a new R8. I would put around $55,000 down.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks everyone!

P.S. I am new to the forums and hopefully will be here for awhile!

I fixed the thread title for you. Welcome to R8Talk.

Why don't you post a photo of you with your Honda, and then we can talk about the R8?

blow your wad on the R8 then have to garage it indefinately till you can afford the cost of ownership. (insurance will clobber you, tags, fuel, mainteance, etc.)

My son is 16 and really wants a lambo bad. I have told him there is no snoballs chance in hell of me letting him get a car like that till he's 18 and I cant stop him. the reasoning is simple. he's a new driver and at 16 ( I was 16 once too ) you guys just lack the maturity to own something like that. meaning, you have a supercar and your disposal and are out showing off for your friends or just dont stop and think of the consequence of what you are about to do just for a second and next thing you know, you or someone else is in jail, the hospital or worse. Hey, it happens, even to us old guys. But we have a little more experience under our belts to temper our "time and palce" impulses.

Here is how I handled my son.

I allowed him to buy a 45th aniversary camaro as his first car, but only the RS(v6). I told him, drive that till graduation, and have no incidents what so ever. then you can get whatever you want. also keep in mind do you REALLY want to have a car like that in your school parking lot getting door dinged, keyed, drooled on?

Just my two cent. take it for what it is, advice from the father of another 16yr old boy in FL. good luck lil' buddy

If you're for real and you want to truly "learn" from your lesson, invest some of that money in a IRA or any decent mutual fund. Take another portion of it and get in on the Facebook IPO this summer. Then watch your money grow, when you hit 18 and insurance is a little cheaper you can buy a very clean R8 GT cash with no issues.

Money is so cheap right now (3.9), if that's "all the money" you have in the world I wouldn't blow it all on a car...and I'm a car NUT.

    Just my opinion. Good luck.

How about an '86 Audi 4000q that only runs on a 3 or 4 cylinders. It'll teach you tons about patience, maintenance, driving quickly in a car that is anything but quick, it will get you through any weather you can imagine, perfect first car.

I remember the days of having to scrounge $2k to get that first car at 17. If I hadn't have owned an extremely underpowered Audi I probably wouldn't be alive today. Fast cars and young drivers are generally a recipe for disaster, plus the insurance costs could only be anything but astronomical.

lol. not mine. my progeny want a lambo. if he buys anything with rings on it, he's said it will be a TT RS. but again, I said no till he has a bit more experience.

for the record, they have plenty cash for college and beyond socked away and he paid for his camaro himself. I really did try to talk him into something more "first car like". reveling him with stories of first cars gone by. He said, screw that noise, that sounds like a pain in the ass. lol

Hard to imagine the perspective of a 16 year old who has enough cash to buy an R8.
